SynaPS3 - PS3 Compatibility, Backup and Homebrew Library

550°
206w ago - After being delayed for several days pending some bugs and features, we're proud to release SynaPS3 - PS3 compatibility, backup and homebrew library with all but 1 intended release feature!

Download: SynaPS3 / [Register or Login to view links]

SynaPS3 is a simple library for people using the Sony PS3 Cell SDK, primarily made for making applications universally compatible with payloads, to help extend and improve existing functions for homebrew, and to add new functions.

Documentation for SynaPS3 is on github. Some of the most notable features of SynaPS3 included syscall36 compatibility on ALL PL3 payloads, and syscall35 compatibility on Hermes v3 and Hermes v4 payloads. To integrate these compatibility fixes it's as simple as opening the source of an existing program, removing the syscall35/syscall36 functions, and including SynaPS3!

SynaPS3 also has functions to help save you time while coding, such as ReadFirmwareVersion, IsBlurayGame, Firmware342Fix, and more.

SynaPS3 is nowhere near where we want it to be yet. This is only the beginning. SynaPS3 aims to become a full library, with PS3 dialogs and full PNG output.

A decent chunk of our code was...

Guide to Compile PS3 Homebrew via PSL1GHT Open-Source SDK

550°
208w ago - Today Scognito has [Register or Login to view links] a guide on how to setup a build environment for compiling and running PS3 homebrew using the PSL1GHT open-source SDK.

To quote: With the breaking out of PSJailbreak this summer, the homebrew sceene didn't wait so long to appear on PlayStation 3.

So we are finally talking about the possibility to run our own unsigned code, using any of the available dongles (you can even build one yourself).

Before actually start writing our application it is necessary to build our development envirement. For doing this we need a toolchain and a SDK: I'll use ps3chain and PSL1GHT.

The latter one is very young (project started 29-oct-10) and continously mantained, so the are chances that something may not work as you would expect.

Updating git daily, reporting bugs and contributing is appreciated

Prerequisites

First of all we need to set our PS3 dev directory and some system variables, as well as all software needed to build our toolchain.

This guide is written for user with Ubuntu 10.10 32bit,...

Rumor: Sony to Region-Restrict New PS3 Games Using SDK 3.50

1000°
210w ago - According to French site PS3Gen.fr (linked above), Sony may be planning to region-restrict upcoming PS3 video games using the new 3.50 SDK.

To quote, roughly translated: "While Sony had surprised everyone by not only zoned games on PS3, unlike the PS2 or the PS1, it seems that this idea can be challenged in the near future.

Since the advent of the SDK 3.50, it is possible for official developers restrict their PlayStation 3 games at a specific region.

For information, be aware that verification of the region of the disc was in fact quietly implemented since the 3.30 firmware but was not yet usable by the studios.

Here are screenshots from a PlayStation 3 when trying to launch a drive to a "bad area"... following an audit of this same disc into console development.

If any games yet so far does this "feature", however it is likely that it will be in the coming months."

[Register or Login to view links] states: "Some people said that the region restriction is old and already used with some demos, but it's wrong! This feature was added in 3.30 SDK and cannot be used with previous software versions. The very few demos using that kind of region lock in old firmwares had nothing to do with that new feature.

PSL1GHT: Open-Source PS3 Homebrew SDK is Born

550°
210w ago - Update: jonlimle has now released a PSL1GHT OpenGL 3D Robot PS3 Demo and a PSL1GHT OpenGL 3D Roller Coaster Demo with videos below.

Just over a month ago an open-source PlayStation 3 Toolchain was announced, and today AerialX tweeted (linked above) news that he has started an open-source PS3 SDK named PSL1GHT for homebrew developers along with sharing a Kammy PSL1GHT Port.

Kammy is a system for loading patches to lv2 (PlayStation 3's Game OS) from a user application, using PSGroove or any other implementation of the exploit that adds the peek/poke syscalls.

This news comes not long after the recent PS3 SDK 1.92 and PS3 SDK 3.41 Sony leaks, and below are some further details from the ReadMe file, as follows:

PSL1GHT is a lightweight PlayStation 3 homebrew...
