Video: BioShock 2 for PS3: Your Questions Answered - Part One

241w ago - Sony's Social Media Senior Specialist Chris Morell has posted up the first video of their FAQ on BioShock for the PS3 console.

To quote: We FINALLY got the invite up to [Register or Login to view links] Marin to talk to the [Register or Login to view links] team, and what better timing than a week away from the game's release on Feb. 9.

We certainly gathered by your abundance of [Register or Login to view links] that excitement for BioShock 2 is crazy high.

So on Monday, I sat down with Senior Producer Melissa Miller and Lead Environment Artist Hogarth de la Plante (with a chillingly lifelike Little Sister standing eerily behind us) who answered a heap of your questions - so many in fact that we had to split the video into two parts.

So today, you'll see part one that focuses primarily on BioShock 2's single-player campaign, including details on story development, philosophical influence, plasmids and much more. And head on back tomorrow for part two, which delves deep into the much-anticipated multiplayer mode.

Heavy Rain Online for PS3 - Previously on Four Days - Part 1

50°
242w ago - As a follow-up to last week's article, today European Product Manager Alex Pavey has shared a glimpse into the Heavy Rain Online Experience, previously on Four Days, Part 1.

To quote: Four Days: The Heavy Rain Online Experience kicked off last week, and it's been great to watch thousands of you following the early stages of the investigation.

A trail of clues led participants across the net, and they witnessed the disturbed and suspicious ranting of someone who may prove to be a potential suspect.

Some participants also discovered that their credentials gave them exclusive access to a parallel investigation taking place in PlayStation Home...

This week is where the real work begins. A crime has taken place, and you will be tasked with supporting the investigation. Analyse the crime-scene - question an eyewitness - assess the evidence. The consequences will be great, but the rewards may be even greater.

If you haven't registered yet, then head over to [Register or Login to view links] to sign-up (you'll also get an exclusive PlayStation Home t-shirt when you do).

PS3 TOOL DECR-1000A Serial Port Examined - Part 1

500°
247w ago - Today we have a brief update on the PS3 TOOL DECR-1000A serial port, as I haven't had time yet (due to the holidays) to install my [Register or Login to view links] into our Service Mode PS3 to begin dumping and comparing the NAND images.

Not long ago we took a peek at the PS3 Reference Tool's serial port, which is a 9 pin RS-232 port is covered by a metal panel, with two screws holding it down. One would assume there are secrets behind it, we did!

On connecting to the unit, we received a prompt for a password. On a whim, we tried a few default passwords, one of which being Administrator, and it worked!

We then received the prompt shown in the picture (below). Alas, there are only a few options to set the IP address on the unit. It can either be set statically, or dynamically - letting the IP be obtained by a network DHCP server.

The version command returns the software version of the PS3 Communication Processor, which as we detailed previously, is the embedded debugger in the PS3 TOOL.

The IP settings as well are that of the embedded debugger....
