Square-Enix Set to Underwhelm PS3 Owners at TGS 2008

200°
307w ago - Square-Enix dropped a bomb at E3 this year when they announced Final Fantasy XIII for the Xbox 360, but can we expect any blockbuster unveilings at the Tokyo Game Show this week?

Well, before the hype and anticipation starts, we'd like to say: nah.

Final Fantasy Union recently ran an article about what to expect, and as far as we can see, we'll have to look elsewhere for any super big announcements. While Square-Enix is bringing 25 titles to the show, only 6 of them have anything to do with the revered Final Fantasy franchise, and only 9 of the total 25 games on display will be playable.

One bit of good news is that this includes the upcoming Dissidia: Final Fantasy for the PSP, so handheld fans should be anticipating some new gameplay footage.

But beyond that, we likely won't see much in the way of new details or information concerning either Final Fantasy XIII or the still-PS3-exclusive, Final Fantasy Versus XIII. We also don't expect any new titles to be revealed, and to be brutally frank, this isn't what we wanted from Square-Enix at TGS 2008. Sure, PSP owners might be satisfied with Dissidia and Final Fantasy Agito XIII, but PS3 owners are going to be disappointed. Again.

So far in this generation, we've noticed a growing trend: PS3 fans haven't been happy with...

Study Finds 87% of PS3 Owners Watch Blu-ray on Console

50°
320w ago - The PlayStation 3 appears to be the Blu-ray player of choice, as 87 percent of PS3 owners watch Blu-ray movies on their console, says a report from the Entertainment Merchants Association.

The 2008 Annual Report on the Home Entertainment Industry says the PS3 will remain the driving force behind Blu-ray sales until 2009.

Microsoft, which did not integrate a HD DVD drive into the Xbox 360 sold only 316,000 HD DVD add-ons for the console in 2007, the reports says.

PS3 sales, in large part because of its Blu-ray compatibility, were close to 3 million by the end of 2007.

And that's just one of the reasons the PS3 should be the Blu-ray player you install in your customers' home theater.

The report also says Blu-ray will outsell standard DVDs in 2012, generating more than $9.5 billion in sales.

PSP Owners: SanDisk 4GB Memory Stick Pro Duo for $30

350°
320w ago - This is probably one of the best deals we've seen on a SanDisk-branded 4GB Memory Stick Pro Duo in a long time, if not ever.

Complete with free shipping, online retailer Buy.com (linked above) is currently offering the stick at a very attractive price of $30 dollars, $50 off the standard list price.

There are no strings attached, aside from the fact that this offer is not an International one, as Buy.com only ships to addresses located within the continental United States.

We have seen Lexar branded cards for cheaper, but those often have issues with loading plug-ins with PSP Custom Firmware. That being said, those interested may want to grab one while they're still available!

Prince of Persia devs planned something special for PS3 owners

250°
323w ago - You may or may not be aware that there's a vote taking place on the official Prince of Persia Web site. This poll allows people to pick one of three Xbox 360 achievements for the final game.

Not much use to PS3 owners, but Ubisoft has done its best to keep us sweet. The poll itself states that PS3 fans need not take umbrage and that they have "planned something special" for us too.

Whether this will have anything to do with the upcoming trophies for the game, or something else entirely, there's no real indication.

Needless to say, however, we're looking forward to seeing whatever it is Ubisoft comes up with. What can we say, we love surprises!

Blu-ray usage on the rise among PS3 owners, study concludes

50°
330w ago - Are you using your PS3 for Blu-ray movies? A new study shows that yes, in fact, you are. Blu-ray usage is on the rise amongst PS3 owners, according to Warner Home Video's research.

It seems that between the last quarter of 2007 and the end of February saw a usage increase of the PS3 as a Blu-ray player from 53% to 80%. In addition to this, after Sony's ad campaign pushing Blu-ray, disc sales rose from 10% to 15% between October and December of 2007.

Take it as you will, but the PS3 is definitely paving the road for Blu-ray and we hope you get more out of your system than merely playing games!
