Puppeteer: Behind the Scenes with the Weird, Wild PS3 Adventure

50°
95w ago - Sony Blog Manager Fred Dutton has gone behind the scenes with the upcoming weird and wild PS3 adventure game Puppeteer today!

To quote: Puppeteer's Gamescom reveal last month was a real joy to behold - a bright, bold new PlayStation IP promising primary-colored platforming fun with some deliciously dark trimmings.

A month or two on, last week PlayStation.Blog had the opportunity to actually sit down with a controller and see if it delivers on that pledge.

High up in Sony Japan Studio's towering Tokyo HQ, creator Gavin Moore walked us through the game's opening chapter, which sees a hapless young lad called Kutaro enslaved by the impossibly evil Moon Bear King and transformed into a puppet.

But steel yourselves - this isn't a cozy Pinocchio-esque tale of a plucky hero embarking on a cheerful quest to (re)gain human form. Far from it - Puppeteer's opening minutes sees poor Kutaro's head brutally torn off by our antagonist and his body nonchalantly tossed into a dank, gloomy cellar.

And that's where you, the player, come in. Guided by gloomy cloth cat Ying Yang, you'll step into Kutaro's shoes and go in search of a new noggin, of which there...

101w ago - SCE Worldwide Studios Art Director Gavin Moore has officially raised the curtain on a new PS3 adventure game entitled Puppeteer today!

Below are the details and a video, as follows: Let's get the introductions out the way so can get right to the exciting stuff.

My name is Gavin, and for the past nine years I have been living in Tokyo working for [Register or Login to view links].

Recently, I and a small - but incredibly talented - group of game makers have been hard at work on a new PlayStation 3 game called Puppeteer.

I'm excited to be able to talk directly to you guys, the heart of PlayStation, and give you the heads-up on the game first.

Puppeteer takes place in a magical puppet theatre, owned and run by the slightly eccentric but thoroughly charming Professor Gregorious T. Oswald. His latest production is the weirdly titled "The Perilous Journey of a Boy Named Kutaro."

On one dark, moonlit night, the star of the show, a young boy named Kutaro, is carried away by the maleficent Moon Bear King to a black castle, where the unlucky lad is transformed into a puppet.

Kutaro then displeases the terrible tyrant who duly devours the boy's wooden head and casts away his body. But the headless...

Video: HandCircus Reveals Okabu: The Co-op Adventure on PSN

50°
145w ago - Today HandCircus Founder Simon Oliver has revealed co-op adventure details alongside a video on Okabu for PlayStation Network.

To quote: With less than a week to go until OKABU launches, we're slightly over-excited about getting it into your hands!

There's still so much to talk about the game, so we wanted to delve a little deeper into the world of OKABU and the different lands that make up the adventure.

We got a slightly carried away during development, and the game ended up quite a bit bigger than we'd originally imagined. Personally I blame Shane (OKABU's level designer), who kept on suggesting awesome new ideas that we felt we really couldn't cut.

As a result the four worlds are pretty huge, so big that OKABU features a Platinum Trophy, earned through tracking down all the medals throughout the story campaign, finding the numerous secrets tucked away throughout the world, as well as besting the four minigames.

Following on from last week's post about the Heroes of OKABU, we really wanted to demonstrate how their different skills fit together, so we've got a fresh video below that shows longer sections of gameplay. It also shows how two players can work together when playing in Co-op mode.
