217w ago - Just a day after the rumor that Mass Effect 2 was slated to hit PS3 in 2010 came a second based on a listing from EA's Russian Web site for Left 4 Dead 2.
Today EA has confirmed to VG247.com (linked above) that both listings are an error, and have now been corrected. Whether both titles will stay exclusive to Microsoft in the future or not remains to be seen.
To quote: "Listing has been taken down. It's now a Xbox 360 only game again.
EA insist both listings for Mass Effect 2 and Left 4 Dead 2 were posted in error."
217w ago - Update: RPGSite.net has now revealed that EA's official Russian Web site also lists Mass Effect 2 as being for Xbox 360, PC and PS3, however, BioWare has simply issued a 'no comment' on it.
To date, BioWare has neither confirmed or denied the existence of a PS3 version of Mass Effect 2.
However, JustPushStart.com (linked above) has uncovered a listing on retailer giant GAME's Web site for a PlayStation 3 version set to release on 10/01/2010 with an item code of MASSEFPS3.
The listing currently shows an unknown publisher and developer, and to quote:
"There's been rumor that Mass Effect titles will be ported to the PlayStation 3 but up until now, no official confirmation. Whether or not this is true is truly up to Bioware if they ever decide to put it on the PlayStation 3. As of now, we will have this as a rumor.
Mass Effect 2 is slated to come out early next year for the XBOX 360 and PC early next year."
224w ago - Mass Effect 2 will receive a simultaneous release on both Xbox 360 and PC when it releases in Q1 2010.
That's according to Associate Producer, Jesse Houston, who confirmed the news to VG247 (linked above) during an interview with him at GamesCom.
To quote: "We learned a lot from building the PC version before, and having built it six months later there was a big difference. So we actually took what we learned from PC and put it back into 360," said Houston, who was talking about the development for the game between the PC and Xbox 360 SKU's.
"Fundamentally, we want you to have the same gameplay experience, but just with the difference in controls. This time round, doing it at the same time for a sim-ship, we can control the differences much more smoothly because it's the same team building it now."
238w ago - We've managed to take the first real time shots of Mass Effect 2, both in-game cutscenes and gameplay, taken from the Mass Effect 2 prelude video leading up to E3.
It's the first time there has been proper screenshots on the net from Mass Effect 2, and there certainly will be more in the run up to E3 itself when it kicks off in the first week of June between June 2nd and June 4th.
We'll hopefully also know more from Microsoft's E3 press conference from June 1st as well as EA's press conference that same day itself.
The game is out early next year, Q1 2010, for the Xbox 360.
247w ago - With the news surfacing about BioWare - who is now wholly owned by Electronic Arts - formally announcing Mass Effect 2 for the Xbox 360 and PC, it has become rather obvious that this wasn't heading to the PS3 and here's a few possible reasons why.
First of all, back when BioWare wasn't owned by Electronic Arts, Microsoft had already published the first game for the Xbox 360 with intentions (much like Gears of War) to maintain a new franchised trilogy for the Xbox brand. People can argue semantics, publishing and trademark rights all they want, but consider Col. Sheppard the tertiary mascot next to Master Chief and Marcus Fenix.
It was reiterated time-over and again that Mass Effect was going to be an Xbox 360 trilogy. And even while Casey Hudson denied plans for a PC rendition of Mass Effect in an interview with Gamer 2.0, it was obvious the big bad MS wasn't going to let gold slip through their fingers...especially considering that the Games for Windows platform is utter crap and needed something good in its library.
The fact that Hudson lied about the PC version could prompt some gamers to believe that Mass Effect 2 could still be heading to the PS3. However, the difference...
