202w ago - SCEA Product Marketing Manager Jefferson Dong has shared details today on Four Days: The Heavy Rain PS3 online experience, as follows:
As many of you living on the West Coast of the United States know, it has been raining extremely hard during the last week.
We, here, in the marketing team at SCEA wanted to let you know that this is merely a coincidence and that there is no connection to the upcoming release of the interactive psychological thriller, Heavy Rain, exclusively for PlayStation 3.
While we did originally have two weeks of downpour planned as part of an ARG (alternate reality game) or viral marketing campaign for the release of Heavy Rain, we were prevented from doing so due to liability and logistical reasons (Legal teams hate it when you screw with the weather).
226w ago - We did say today was alleged PS3 Slim ad day earlier, right?
Another has now surfaced from alexval78 at French site PS3Gen (linked above) which purportedly shows an ad for a 'new PS3 console at a new price' slated for September 1, 2009 and allegedly costing €299 Euros.
To quote, roughly translated: "Carrefour catalog contains active bids on Thursday 27 August to Tuesday September 8. Through its pages, our member was surprised to see an announcement regarding "a new console and a new award, announced on our beloved PS3!
As you can see, the layout is still that of the current PS3, but the offer is clear: Carrefour will offer for sale a new PS3, with a reduced price of €100, beginning the first of September next. This is certainly the improved version of the monolith as we know it as the Slim PS3."
246w ago - Sony announced earlier that they upgraded their cross platform engine, the PhyreEngine, to version 2.40.
To quote: New features included 'foliage rendering', which allows for more ultra-realistic trees and leaves, best seen in the PSN exclusive title, Flower.
For gamers though, the bigger news is that Sony has seemingly unveiled 4 unheard of games which are all using the PhyreEngine.
These include an unamed title from Australian developer Big Ant Studios, puzzle/platforming PSN title Topatoi developed by Boolat Games, third person action game Strength of the Sword from Invent Studios, and finally, The 7th Seal by Paul Cuisset's (of Flashback fame and Shaq Fu notoriety) studio VectorCell.
Hopefully as GDC goes on, we'll hear more about these titles.
254w ago - Recently Team InFeCtuS has launched their new 4th Generation Mod-chip for the Nintendo Wii console.
The Argon 2 is both updatable via Internet and solderless, and also capable of running Wii homebrew software available at www.ArgonChannel.com.
Today we review the Argon 2 drive enhancement chip for the Wii.
I will start with my first impression of the chip itself. In size it is just a fraction larger that the infectus chip, which is not bad at all considering it has an integrated official wiiclip built in.
A quick video of it in action:
Please note: (many others need you to solder one on if you plan to use one with their chip, thus adding to the size of the chip needing it, then you have the added hasle of figuring out which one you need, and once you do solder it on... wait didn't you want a wiiclip because you're not so handy at soldering?)
So for the average user this chip is DIY, and plug-n-play via wiiclip. The PCB hardware itself is solid, and it is easy to see that it is of high quality. That being said, let's get down to actually putting the chip to use.
Upon first installing it my first test was with a dvd-rw,...
