Sony on PS4's Noise Level, Power Consumption & Media Performance

200°
43w ago - Following up on their previous updates, today Sony's SVP has given PlayStation 4 fans more insight into the PS4's noise level, power consumption, media performance and more below.

To quote from DualShockers.com (linked above): "Sony Computer Entertainment Japan and Asia Senior Vice president and Director of Business Unit 1 Masayasu Ito isn't as well known as Shuhei Yoshida between PlayStation fans, but given his technical role he's the best person to ask about some of the most technical aspects of the upcoming PS4.

Today he gaver some extremely interesting information about the console as part of an interview on the Japanese tech site [Register or Login to view links].

Here's a summary of the most relevant points:

  • While being always online is not necessary, a network connection is important to fully enjoy the features of the PS4.
  • The PS4 will initially act as a stand-alone web server for the PlayStation App. In the future there's the possibility of this to be expanded through the cloud, with the PS4 and PlayStation App interacting through the cloud, allowing cooperative...

Ibb & Obb on PSN Updated, Enhanced Features and Performance

100°
44w ago - Sparpweed Creative Director Richard Boeser announced today alongside a video that Ibb and Obb on PSN has been updated complete with enhanced features and performance.

To quote: It's been about a month since we launched Ibb & Obb, our two-player, cooperative puzzle platformer.

Since the launch, we've been working on a patch to fix some bugs that players found, but also to add some features based on the feedback we got.

The most requested feature was to have indicators showing where players are when they fly off screen. Those are now in, along with d-pad support for those of you who prefer that to the analog stick. Also, we managed to improve general performance quite a bit - now everything runs at 60 FPS in full HD, with anti aliasing on.

For us, some of the most interesting things of the last month are the Let's Play videos that pop up. Often made by players that dive into the game without having played it before or knowing much about it. From a game designer point of view these videos are extremely useful.

We've seen a lot of people play during development, but it's different when players know the game is still unfinished or when they can ask you questions directly. The Let's Play videos feel more real. They show the published product and are often recorded...

If you haven't heard of us, we're the creators of N, N+ and now the upcoming N++. If you want to read more about those games, check out [Register or Login to view links] about their backstory.

Next year will mark the 10-year anniversary of N, which should tell you that we've been working on this series for a very long time. We've learned a lot about N over the years, and now it's time for us to take all the loose ends, crazy experiments, and things we never got a chance to do, and combine them all into one final version. Our goal is for this to be the definitive version, the one which we ourselves would want to play over all other versions: N++.

We can't wait to say more! In the meantime, the teaser trailer above should...

Fez Set to Melt Minds on PS4, PlayStation Vita and PS3 Platforms

48w ago - Polytron Producer Marie-Christine Bourdua announced today that Fez is set to melt minds on PS4, PlayStation Vita and PS3 platforms!

To quote: Hi there! My name is Marie-Christine Bourdua, producer at Polytron, and I'm here today to announce that Fez is coming soon to PS Vita, PS3 and PS4. Making Fez happen has been such an incredible journey, and we are truly thrilled to see our game come to PlayStation platforms.

Fez development started six and a half years ago with Phil Fish's ideas and Renaud Bedard's programming skills. The Montreal-based studio was (and still is) very small, but very ambitious.

Only 100 days into development, we submitted a Fez prototype to the 2008 Independent Games Festival, and were awarded the Visual Arts award, which was a huge public awareness and morale boost. But we still had a whole game to make!

We failed to meet a million deadlines and had to overcome financial obstacles, but met amazing collaborators along the way, like the game's composer, Rich Vreeland (aka Disasterpeace), and outstanding pixel artist Paul Robertson.

The game was taking shape, had a unique atmosphere and aura of mystery that we knew would find fans. As we were wrapping up development, James Swirsky and Lisanne Pajot (makers of the Sundance-nominated...
