Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII Demo Out Today on PS3

50°
26w ago - Square Enix Associate Product Manager Mat Kishimoto announced that Lightning Returns with the new Final Fantasy XIII demo out today on PS3!

To quote: If you haven't been lucky enough to attend E3, San Diego Comic Con, Penny Arcade Expo, or the other shows that have hosted Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII, we have good news. We're excited to announce that you can get hands-on with it in a playable demo that's dropping TODAY.

From now on, you don't have to take our word for it that this game is unlike anything Final Fantasy has ever done before, because it's finally time for you to see for yourself.

First off, downloading the demo scores you an exclusive piece of DLC that we're giving to you PlayStation fans - the Utsusemi Samurai garb - that you can use in the main game (it's not in the demo itself, so don't panic if you don't see it).

Again, this offer is exclusive to PlayStation owners too, so right off the bat you're getting something not everybody's going to get, JUST for downloading it. You can't tell, but I'm winking at you, especially at all you Final Fantasy XI Ninjas.

So what's in the demo itself? Of course, you're playing as Lightning, but you're now mysteriously tracking down her old friend Snow Villiers in the city of Yusnaan. As Lightning, it's...

Sony Goes Hands-on with Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII

50°
27w ago - Sony Social Media Specialist Ryan Clements went hands-on today with Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII.

Below are the details, to quote: The heroine of Final Fantasy XIII, Lightning, has faced insurmountable odds to fight for what she believes in. She's challenged the power of the divine, sailed across time, and now stands on the brink of the apocalypse, overlooking a decaying world with lingering memories urging her onward.

In Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII, the developers at Square Enix prepare to conclude Lightning's story with an RPG that, more often than not, defies expectations.

Lightning Returns is a radically different quest than its two predecessors. Both its story and its play mechanics stride forward with little regard for the constraints binding the games before them, and the tropes that govern other Japanese RPGs.

When we first meet Lightning, our rose-haired warrior has been granted the title of "Savior" by the god of light, Bhunivelze, about 500 years after the end of Final Fantasy XIII-2. The world is crumbling under the seething weight of Chaos, and an ageless suffering has plagued its people.

Bhunivelze has decided to fashion a new world and populate it with souls. Lightning must save these souls from the dying world so they might...

Adventurers around the realm must get to the bottom of this chilly mystery and find out why the snowmen have disappeared. Could it be the mischievous imps behind the attacks? Save the snowmen, save the world.

Those adventurers willing to brave the elements will be rewarded handsomely with new seasonal outfits designed around a snowman, reindeer, and even a set of "red and white" gear that matches a certain someone's outfit... There's even cute reindeer barding to equip your personal chocobo with. The Starlight Celebration will be available until December 31st, 2013, so be sure to join in.

To quote: We're thrilled to announce the Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII Collector's Edition, which will be available for purchase exclusively through the [Register or Login to view links].

Instead of just throwing together a bunch of cluttered pieces of cardstock, paperweights, or stuff you won't ever look at again, we spent a lot of time coming up with some things we thought you'd really enjoy. In other words, we wanted to make this Collector's Edition just that - something you'd actually want to collect.

Collector Box: As a lifelong fan of the Final Fantasy franchise like many of you, I've always loved the aesthetics of the Japanese cover art. We don't want you to feel forced to import the Japanese copy of the game for obscene amounts of money just for the fantastic cover art, so that's how we came to the decision to choose this specific artwork for the collector box.

80 page Hardcover Art Book: This art book, simply put, is awesome. Everyone is well aware that the Final Fantasy series...
