155w ago - Previously we reported that PS3 downgrading hinders Blu-ray movie playback along with some work-arounds while markjtarr began a Poll on working/non-working drives post-downgrade, and today Project Blu-ray seeks to restore functionality using feedback from PlayStation 3 downgraders.
To quote from PSGroove (linked above): "They are asking anyone with a PS3 to run an app they have developed, which will dump certain files related to Blu-Ray playback.
It does not matter if the Blu-ray problem is affecting your console or not, your files are still needed for analysis. Once analyzed, this should lead to a permanent Blu-ray playback fix!"
From the included ReadMe file: One of the most exciting recent developments is the ability to downgrade PS3s to previous firmwares. Unfortunately this has proven to have an unexpected side-effect for certain older ("phat") PS3s:
After downgrading, systems with 256MB of flash RAM (NAND) lose the...
157w ago - Since the release of PSGrade there have been lots of PS3 Downgrade Hex Codes for all types of devices, and today Matrix15 and xXJohannXx of Logic-Sunrise.com (linked above) have posted a PIC18F hex code and guide which can be found below.
To quote, roughly translated: After leaving the downgrade for the different clones based Atmel microcontroller, the service mode is finally available to the dongle-based ICP such as ZBN SPI USB V1, V1.1, V2 , or PS3liberator NbzgroovePIC v1.0 at PICDEM bootloader is available.
The downgrade process is similar to any other dongles, you'll need: downgrade-files (http://www.logic-sunrise.com/telecharger-172586-downgrader-files.html)
1 - Upgrade your NbzgroovePIC or module ZBN with the update for the downgrade. (The update is done the same way that a jailbreak for maj.)
157w ago - Update: According to several members (including jensen76, evilsperm, and sk group) when you downgrade a PS3 with the Modified 3.41 PUP (below), it currently cripples the Blu-ray player functionality. Some additional PS3 Blu-ray fix updates are outlined HERE, however, a more stable solution is still being worked on.
To quote from garyopa on one work-around: "I was able to restore one machine I had, by copying over all the files I had in the /dev_flash2 and /dev_flash3 back to the HDD, that I had saved before when it was on v3.41"
Forum member p666 also has expanded on the PS3 Blu-ray fix a bit HERE...
157w ago - Since the release of PS3 Firmware v3.55 there is no sense in keeping the master key a secret any more - it has been released, along with unencrypted payloads, and a promise to release the source-code by PS3YES for a free PSGrade PS3 downgrader.
158w ago - A few weeks back we saw a video of PS Downgrade in action, and today ANTONIOPS at Spanish site Elotrolado.net (linked above) has posted up some videos showing PS3 Debug Firmware v2.15 being installed via PSDowngrade on a 40GB Retail version 3.41 console followed by running a PS Store demo.
Normally PlayStation 3 service boxes require a proper downgrade PUP file, however, comparing the SHA1 hash of the released PUP confirms it contains nothing special (just the old 3.41) so there appears to be something 'interesting' taking place when downgrading via PS Downgrade.
To quote, roughly translated: The noise you hear when you turn on the PS3 is the reader who is half repaired.
The Debug firmware I've installed the firmware downgrade PSDowngrade 3.41 to 2.15 Debug.
At the moment can only run signed code, such as a PS Store demo.
