1000°
159w ago - Previously the EFF (Electronic Frontier Foundation) reported on the Sony / GeoHot PS3 case, and now they are seeking (PDF) to widen exemptions won in the last DMCA rulemaking to allow for the JailBreaking of smartphones, electronic tablets, and video game consoles including the PlayStation 3 system.

To quote: Copyright Office Should Expand Legal Protections for JailBreakers and Video Artists

San Francisco - The Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) urged the U.S. Copyright Office today to renew and expand the critical exemptions to the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) granted last year in response to EFF's requests to protect the rights of American consumers who modify electronic gadgets and make remix videos.

In the exemption requests filed today, EFF asked the Copyright Office to protect the "jailbreaking" of smartphones, electronic tablets, and video game consoles – liberating them to run operating systems and applications from any source, not just those approved by the manufacturer. EFF also asked for legal protections for artists and critics who use excerpts from DVDs or downloading...

Sony: PS4 to Arrive with Next-Gen Consoles from Competitors

1050°
160w ago - Contrary to previous reports, PlayStation Europe CEO Jim Ryan recently stated to [Register or Login to view links] that PS4 will probably arrive at the same time as Next-Gen XBox and Nintendo consoles.

To quote: "I think we would consider it undesirable to be significantly later than the competition [with the next PlayStation]."

He also noted, however, that there is still a lot of life left in the PS3 and explained:

"If you look at PlayStation 2, now in excess of 150m units installed globally, a huge majority of that was done at price points of £120 or lower.

We've only just hit £199 in the UK [with the PS3] so clearly there's a considerable untapped part of the market there."

Is anyone ready for a potential PS4 release as early as 2012?

To quote, roughly translated: "We are the fantastic ultra hyper Mega Team. We have modified. Self and made impossible... The way to solve the problem the reader is:

First, downgrade to firmware 2.30 (you know how), then we launch the console normally (thus leaving the service before) and set the time, date, language and others.

Second: Go back to start the service mode.

In the stick, unzip the contents of the zip in the root of this.

Put the USB flash drive in the far right and turn on the PS3... will see something new on screen, when you see that makes drive init blue with a circle on the right is that it has been restored key in the reader.

We let you reinstall the 2.30 and also is configured to read all the films on bluray region free.

Exit the service mode (with the lv2diag FILE 2) and we have ready the reader by reading the games, except if we have the laser damaged.

Well, from here on out if you crack a controller bluray or ps3 you have two, one with...

198w ago - As a follow-up to our previous article, the Guardian (linked above) is now reporting that PS3 consoles have been taken from Dutch homes as a result of the Sony-LG patent dispute while [Register or Login to view links] reports that the previously seized PS3's are being released following the court lifting LG's injunction against Sony with the firm ordered to pay legal fees.

To quote from the Guardian: "LG has won a court order enabling it to seize all new PS3 across the Netherlands – including those already in Dutch homes – in a dispute that centres on Sony's allegedly infringing use of Blu-ray technology belonging to LG.

The injunction means that LG is tightening the net on PS3s in Europe, having already ordered customs officers to seize thousands of the consoles last week.

Sony will fight to have the blockade lifted at an emergency hearing in the Hague's civil court of justice tomorrow.

LG argues that Sony PS3s infringe a number of its patents relating to playback of Blu-ray discs. The Korean...
