Sputnik Cell / SPU Pipeline Viewer for PS3 ELF Files Arrives

250°
155w ago - Today PlayStation 3 developer Jon Rocatis has [Register or Login to view links] news of a Spusim clone called Sputnik Cell / SPU Pipeline Viewer, which is useful for those into low-level SPU analysis and optimization of PS3 object and ELF files.

To quote: Sputnik is a Cell/SPU Pipeline viewer. According to Wikipedia Sputnik means “co-traveler” or “traveling companion” and I hope Sputnik will be accompanying you on your future SPU coding adventures!

It’s somewhat of a clone of IBM’s spusim tool. That tool has some things that annoys me and is lacking some features that I would like, so I ended up writing my own!

First of all spusim locks the files you have loaded which is annoying – also it has no recent-files or anything like that. Sputnik has that and will even auto-load the most recently opened file at startup and go to the function you looked at last. Sputnik is able to load both object files and ELF-files.

172w ago - Today Ubisoft PR Coordinator Alex Monney has announced that Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Trilogy is coming to PS3 with 3D!

To quote: For the last few months, we've been working on bringing the first three [Register or Login to view links] games - Splinter Cell, Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow and Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory - to the PS3.

Splinter Cell and Sam Fisher don't need an introduction; these three games are highly acclaimed games and it has been a great pleasure for us to work on these titles.

The PS3 Game

When we started this project, one of our main goals was to provide the players with the best possible content. Hence we decided to port the game from the PC version which had more content and detail compared to the PS2 version.

[Register or Login to view links] on PS3 will include:

• Graphics in HD resolution
• 3D Stereoscopic support for 3D TVs
• Some exciting and challenging Trophies

Let's take a quick trip down memory lane and talk briefly about the gameplay and original titles.

Splinter Cell games are third-person, stealth-based...

SynaPS3 - PS3 Compatibility, Backup and Homebrew Library

550°
192w ago - After being delayed for several days pending some bugs and features, we're proud to release SynaPS3 - PS3 compatibility, backup and homebrew library with all but 1 intended release feature!

Download: SynaPS3 / [Register or Login to view links]

SynaPS3 is a simple library for people using the Sony PS3 Cell SDK, primarily made for making applications universally compatible with payloads, to help extend and improve existing functions for homebrew, and to add new functions.

Documentation for SynaPS3 is on github. Some of the most notable features of SynaPS3 included syscall36 compatibility on ALL PL3 payloads, and syscall35 compatibility on Hermes v3 and Hermes v4 payloads. To integrate these compatibility fixes it's as simple as opening the source of an existing program, removing the syscall35/syscall36 functions, and including SynaPS3!

SynaPS3 also has functions to help save you time while coding, such as ReadFirmwareVersion, IsBlurayGame, Firmware342Fix, and more.

SynaPS3 is nowhere near where we want it to be yet. This is only the beginning. SynaPS3 aims to become a full library, with PS3 dialogs and full PNG output.

A decent chunk of our code was...
