2.40 In-Game XMB Music Access revealed in latest PSBlog update?

400°
323w ago - The latest Official PlayStation Blog entry may have revealed In-Game XMB Music Access, relating to the ongoing question that is "In-Game XMB Access - Will it have Music?"

On the PlayStation Blog, it lists the Burnout Paradise patch update content. To quote:

Plus heaps more, including:
- 1080i support for PlayStation 3 owners with "almost HD" sets
- Improved Standard Definition rendering for PlayStation 3
- Support for Custom Soundtracks on PlayStation 3

One thing stood out from the others.. "Support for Custom Soundtracks on PlayStation 3"

This could mean a couple of things, either each game will have it's own in game custom soundtracks, or Sony have succeeded in making In-Game XMB Music possible by just having the developer update the game to make the game compatible with the PS3's system & settings.

Of course I could be wrong, but I try to stick to the optimistic, rumor boosting, speculative side. My verdict? Yeah, it will. 2.40 will add In-Game XMB Music accessible through a PS3 version music player.

PSN now down, PS3 Firmware 2.40 rumored for July release

100°
323w ago - To quote Lestrade, Community Team Leader at the European PlayStation Forums:

PLAYSTATIONŽNetwork Downtime - Tuesday 24 June, 15:00-20:10 BST

The PLAYSTATION Network will be offline for 5 hours today from 3pm BST (4pm CEST) for maintenance work. It's pretty much all behind-the-scenes work and is, most definitely, not the 2.4 System Software update. Sorry, you need to wait a little longer for that one!

During this maintenance, the following online services may not be available:

- PSN account registration,
- PSN account sign-in,
- PSN account management,
- PlayStation Store purchases,
- online gaming, unless you are already logged in at 3pm
- forum login

In related news, self-proclaimed Sony employee Knight613 from GameFAQs states that PS3 Firmware v2.40 was supposed to come out on June 18th, but a bad error was found and needed fixing. Now the date is very early July (1st to 3rd), and the RC release is already ready... so it's just a matter of time.

To quote: 2.40 was supposed to come out June 18th actually... till they found a pretty bad error with the XMB and had to fix it. New date is supposedly July 2ndish,...

Rumor: PS3 Firmware 2.40 Update confirmed for June 18th?

350°
326w ago - Dutch Web site PlayStation Only has been told that Firmware 2.40 is 100% confirmed for a release on June 18th.

The previous reported date of June 10th is incorrect, our source told us. Only In-game XMB has been confirmed so far.

However, it's likely that there will also be Trophy support in it.

Needless to say, this is dubbed a rumor until the day (and the PS3 Firmware Update) arrives.

Rumor: PS3 Firmware 2.40 Features In-Game XMB

200°
326w ago - According to Jim Cordeira over at Gaming-Age, the long-awaited Firmware 2.4 update for PlayStation 3 will hit later this summer, complete with a universal friends list and In-Game XMB functionality.

While Sony has yet to comment, it's no secret that a major firmware release is due out soon. Back in March, SCEE UK head Ray Maguire made mention of 2.4, but did not provide specifics - aside from confirming that the update would hit in the summer and include "In-Game communication."

An EA employee who goes by the alias of "evilone" on NeoGAF gave credence to Jim's report, noting that "there is more then just In-Game XMB coming in 2.40."

Until it's release, we're still filing this as a rumor, but there is a good chance it's legit... time will tell for sure.

Insider leaks potential PS3 Firmware 2.40 details

328w ago - All of the following information has come from an insider I, Sev1512, am in contact with and everything isn't 'set in stone'. Things can change a lot, especially when it involves Sony.

If any of the information is wrong, its because plans have changed and not because it was made up.

PS3 Firmware 2.40 should include:

- Access your XMB chat features from any game.
- 2D trophies from the XMB where 70% of current titles will support them straight away.
- Video Coding and groundwork for the Movie Store (Out Sept)

My insider notes however that not all of the above will definitely make it before Metal Gear Solid comes out.

Oh, and Online Co-op for Super Stardust HD is in the works.
