Gunslugs on PlayStation Vita: Developer Q and A is Detailed

50°
28w ago - Abstraction Games Creative Director Tj'ien Twijnstra shared a Gunslugs PlayStation Vita Developer Q and A with PS Vita fans below today!

To quote: Hey everyone! I'm extremely excited that Gunslugs is finally coming to its natural home, PS Vita, on February 18th. To celebrate the launch, we're offering a 20% discount for all PlayStation Plus members during the first week, so don't miss out!

For the occasion, I figured I'd give you guys a sneak peek at the porting process of Gunslugs; or as we like to call it, an "adaptation" process.

As I have no technical skills whatsoever, I interviewed Rutger Janssen, one of our elite programmers, and Ralph Egas, CEO and [Register or Login to view links] Mastermind. Both developers were involved with the Gunslugs adaptation.

Tj'ien Twijnstra: Rutger, could you tell us a bit about the adaptation process? How does something like that work?

Rutger Janssen: After we determined the base version, the first step is to strip the game code of all the platform specific functions; only the game code remains. Then we take it through our in-house developed tool chain so the basic language is converted from Objective C to C++. Unfortunately, tools are never perfect, so here and there I needed to manually...

Disgaea 4 is Coming to PS Vita, NISA 2014 Lineup Detailed

50°
28w ago - Sony Social Media Specialist Ryan Clements detailed the NISA 2014 lineup today confirming that Disgaea 4 is indeed coming to PS Vita.

To quote: Last night, the small but spunky team at NIS America reminded downtown San Francisco of its dedication to quirky JRPGs and unusual adventures.

Sporting matching white and blue "Dood" jerseys, the team presented its lineup for 2014 at a local venue, with a little help from a torrent of teaser trailers. Anime in-jokes, self-referential dialogue, and explosions of color dominated the multimedia showcase, staying true to NISA's tradition of catering to otaku culture.

The evening began with NIS President Souhei Niikawa - donning a regal [Register or Login to view links] - thanking members of the press for their continued support. Niikawa also revealed that NIS is working on a PS4 game that would enjoy a proper announcement at this year's Tokyo Game Show.

His brief but humble wishes were followed with a host of trailers, each representing one of NISA's projects for the year.

Where Do Babies Come From: Conception II on PlayStation Vita

50°
28w ago - Atlus PR Manager John Hardin introduces Where Do Babies Come From: Conception II on PlayStation Vita today with details below.

To quote: As the hero in Conception II, you'll quickly learn that the seven heroines you meet and begin to form relationships with are an important aspect for surviving the game's deadly labyrinths.

But in addition to being a strong combatant by your side, the heroines also help you create an army of Star Children warriors through a magic ritual. Those Star Children are what we're going to focus on in today's Conception II update.

Making Star Children is called "Classmating" in the game (yes, really), but in order to do so, you must have a good relationship with the heroine. The stronger your bond with the mother, the more powerful your offspring will be, and there's also hereditary traits the children get as well.

Star Children inherit elemental affinity, stat focus, stat distribution, and even hair color; so Narika's kids will always have high TEC (hit/crit chance), while you can count on Feene's children for big defense. Of course, there's always the chance for abnormalities, but we'll leave that for players to find out on their own.

A Star Child's stats determine which classes are available to it. There are thirty classes to choose...

Image & Form Games: SteamWorld Dig Coming to PS4, PS Vita in 2014

50°
28w ago - Image & Form Games CEO Brjann Sigurgeirsson announced today that SteamWorld Dig is coming to PS4 and PS Vita in 2014.

Below are the details, to quote: Hi everyone, thrilled to be here - finally! I'm Brjann Sigurgeirsson, the worst-named CEO of the worst-named game development studio in the world, Image & Form Games.

I'm here to present perhaps the world's worst-named game: SteamWorld Dig. It launches on PS4 and PS Vita this year. Don't let the title fool you - the game is great!

Image & Form is a Swedish game developer based in rainy, windy Gothenburg. There's a dozen of us, and the rest of the lot is a bunch of brilliant, hard-working, and quite childish people.

I also work hard and am rather childish myself, but instead of being brilliant all the time I focus on hogging credit and interacting with you guys. You can read more about all of us right here.

Take the role of Rusty - a lone, mining steambot - as he arrives to an old mining town in great need. Dig your way through the old earth, gaining riches while uncovering the ancient threat that lurks below.

SteamWorld Dig is what we call "a mining platform adventure." The objective is mining, the controls are those of a platformer, and it's a story-driven game with a defined beginning and end....

Sony Announces MouseCraft Brings Cheese-Based Puzzling to PS Vita

50°
28w ago - Curve Studios PR and Marketing Manager Rob Clarke announced today on Sony's blog that MouseCraft brings cheese-based puzzling to PS Vita.

Below are the details, to quote: Hey everyone, Rob from Curve here! It seems like only a few weeks ago I was here talking about our Mega bundle of 2013 games. This week we're very happy to announce something brand new: an indie puzzle game called MouseCraft.

MouseCraft takes some of the most recognizable elements of classic puzzle games and combines them to create something that's completely new and great fun to play, especially on a portable device like PS Vita. The basic gameplay is very simple: Your goal is to lead a group of mice through a machine to find the cheese at the other end of the level.

You don't control the mice directly however, but instead control their environment through the use of many different types of classic 'Tetromino' blocks that can be dropped onto the level. Imagine the careful strategy and planning of a game like Lemmings with the blocks and fast-paced decision making of Tetris, and you've got an idea of how MouseCraft works.

There are over 50 levels in the campaign mode, and as you play the path and methods of getting to the exits becomes more and more complicated, introduce different blocks that can used to...
