Improved XBox 360 Controller Confirmed and Dated

200°
309w ago - The Xbox 360 controller d-pad has long been cited as the number one reason to buy Bionic Commando: Rearmed on the PlayStation 3. Now, 360 owners are finally getting the remedy they've been waiting for. It's a bitter one though.

Eurogamer reports that a new controller that can register 32 directions of input through the d-pad made it onto the Games Convention show floor via a Pro Evolution Soccer 2009 kiosk, the game for which it is being specifically developed. Microsoft confirmed that the new controller will indeed be released on October 24, but the news gets sour for North Americans after that.

As apparent punishment for North America's general lack of interest in the beautiful game, the new controller will be a "limited edition promotional item that is only available in Europe, Asia and Latin America while supplies last." Brazilians, you may commence crowing. For the rest of us unlucky enough to be stuck in the northern portion of the New World, there's always eBay, right? But if a third-party publisher that Eurogamer spoke with is right, the new and improved controller may just turn up with the console edition of a certain Capcom fighting game.

So what will it be, 360 owners? Will you suck it up and import it now, or will you play the waiting game and see if it turns up with Street Fighter...

Sony gives PS3 Music Peripheral Compatibility Update

100°
309w ago - SCEA's Michael Shorrock has confirmed that for the past few months they have been working very closely with the likes of Neversoft, Activision, Harmonix and Konami in order to ensure PS3 guitars and drum sets all feature a basic level of gameplay compatibility. So for example, Gutar Hero: World Tour's guitars and drums will work with Rock Band 2 and Rock Revolution software!

To quote: For the past several months, we have been working closely with Neversoft and Activision, Harmonix and Konami to ensure that PlayStation 3 guitars and drum sets will all feature a basic level of gameplay compatibility.

For the most part, this means that the titles with musical peripherals will work with the other's software. A few specific examples include: Guitar Hero: World Tour's guitars and drums will work with Rock Band 2 and Konami's Rock Revolution software.

And yes, you guessed it, Rock Band 2's guitar and drum set will work with Guitar Hero: World Tour and with Rock Revolution.

Conversely, Rock Revolution's drum set will work with both Guitar Hero: World Tour and Rock Band 2.

In addition, Guitar Hero: World Tour and Rock Band 2 will both support the SingStar microphones.

We're still working hard to ensure compatibility between the Guitar Hero and...

Updated: 17 Videos Direct from PS3 Home Beta

50°
309w ago - Update: Based on feedback received we wanted to clarify that HDR did not shoot these videos or have any part in their creation. They were sent to us anonymously out of the blue and are hosted at Photo Bucket, a popular file sharing website.

That said, Home is coming along nicely and we keep our fingers crossed its availability for everyone will be sooner rather than later. If you've applied for the next round of Beta testers, good luck!

We have a special treat for you this morning thanks to a generous anonymous tipster who put a lot of effort into what you're about to see.

The following videos were taken from the original Playstation Home Beta and the just-updated expansion. The newer videos are towards the top, including the trailer for Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull as watched in the Home movie theater.

It should be noted that each "area" of Home such as the movie theater, game room and so on must be downloaded separately when entering them for the first time. At approximately 50MB per area this could take a serious chunk out of one's hard drive.

With any luck we'll have some more first-look Home footage to share in the near future. Until then, enjoy the whopping 17 videos of Playstation 3's Home Beta in action.
