SCEE Announces Movies for PS3 Video Service Launch in Europe

273w ago - Today SCEE announced that the video store will launch "sometime late November," with films being available in both HD and SD.

The initial wave of titles to the store will include Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs, Hannah Montana: The Movie, Bruno, Angels & Demons, Casino Royale, Crank 2: High Voltage and The Hills Have Eyes.

The video store allows users to download the latest releases straight to their PlayStation 3, and will be available in France, Germany, Spain and the UK from November with other markets to follow in 2010.

SCE Asia Expands PlayStation Market to Indonesia

278w ago - SCE Asia President Tetsuhiko Yasuda has announced plans for expansion today to bring Sony's PlayStation product line to Indonesia.

According to Kotaku, beginning this October Sony Computer Entertainment Asia will begin selling the 120GB PlayStation 3, the PSP and the PSPgo to Indonesian customers.

To quote: "Starting this October, the PS3, PSP and PSPgo will be available for Rp4,499,000; Rp2,599,000 and Rp3,599,000 respectively (including tax).

Indonesia is the latest country SCE Asia has expanded into. Other SCE Asia subsidiary markets include Hong Kong, Taiwan, Thailand, Singapore, South Korea and Malaysia."

SCEA Rep: UMD Transfer Service Scrapped for PSP Go Owners

278w ago - At TGS 2009 Sony announced that PSP owners will not be able to transfer the UMD games they currently own to the upcoming PSP Go system.

The news contradicts promises made earlier this year at E3 2009 in Los Angeles, where Sony soothed consumer concerns with promises of an exchange service for gamers who wanted to play their PSP games on a new PSP Go.

A Sony rep told Kotaku at the time they were "looking into programs for owners who have previously purchased UMD titles and want to exchange them for digital versions," and given our positive impressions of the Go's technical specs a conversion program seemed feasible.

To quote: "We were evaluating a UMD conversion program, but due to legal and technical reasons we will not be offering the program at this time," a SCEA rep told [Register or Login to view links] this morning.

Instead Sony is offering early adopters an opportunity to claim three free games, but that offer is only valid in Europe. Consumers who take advantage of the PSP Go North American launch in a few days will receive nothing.
