SCEJ Announces Resident Evil 5 Bundle for PlayStation 3

275w ago - Sony Computer Entertainment Japan has revealed a PlayStation 3 bundle for Capcom's forthcoming shooter Resident Evil 5 (or Biohazard 5), scheduled for Japanese release with the game on March 5th.

The bundle will be priced at ¥48,980 ($526) and will include an 80GB PlayStation 3 system branded with the Biohazard logo and text, a copy of the game, and two Dualshock 3 controllers.

Microsoft revealed yesterday that it will also offer an Xbox 360 bundle for the survival horror game in Japan, priced at ¥34,800 ($369) and due March 5th.

The bundle will feature a 60GB system, a 48-hour Xbox Live Gold membership trial card, a copy of Resident Evil 5, a headset, a soundtrack CD, a collector's tin case, and a code for downloading an RE5 theme.

Neither Microsoft or Sony have disclosed any plans to bring their respective system bundles to the West. Resident Evil 5 ships for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in the U.S. on March 13th.
 

SCEE President Reeves: We're Ahead of XBox in Europe

280w ago - Sony has moved to dispel Microsoft claims that Xbox is outselling the PS3 in Europe, revealing internal figures that say its console has sold 300,000 more units than Xbox 360 in PAL territories.

And the company doesn't feel it has to follow Microsoft and further ignite consumer interest with a price cut of its own anytime soon.

SCEE president David Reeves told MCV that Sony will remain focused on the value offered by the PS3 and its extra functions and services - at its current £299 SRP.

"No we are not going to go down in price; neither are we going to go down in price on PS3 in spring time either. Absolutely not, whatever you might have heard to the contrary," he said - referring to purported 'leaks' from a Sony meeting two weeks ago that claimed Sony had a price cut planned for March '09.

"Our strategy is very much value added." Reeves added that Sony's business model for the console isn't designed around dropping the RRP every time a manufacturing cost saving has been found. And he was keen to point out that, according to Sony figures, the PS3 is already ahead of Microsoft's rival.

SCEE Offering 50,000 GBP for PlayStation Network Prototypes

281w ago - Sony Computer Entertainment Europe launched a competition today where development studios are invited to submit prototypes for a chance to win 10,000 GBP awarded to the five selected, totaling £50,000.

To quote: Sony is to launch the Get in the Game project tonight, offering five developers the chance to receive GBP 10,000 to prototype new content for the PlayStation Network.

The company will be holding a free workshop in December to provide better insight into working with the format holder, with attendees invited to pitch ideas to a panel of Sony execs and producers.

The panel will then select five companies to receive the GBP 10,000 to prototype their ideas over the first three months of 2009. Prototypes will then be shown to Sony Europe with the possibility of going into full production.

The competition is in conjunction with Northwest Vision and Media and is designed to support the games industry in the Northwest region.
