Video Recap: Groove Armada Have Now Left PlayStation Home

50°
246w ago - Sony's European Product Manager Elliott Linger has shared a video recap dubbed 'Groove Armada Have Now Left PlayStation Home' today on the PlayStation Blog.

To quote: First off thanks to everyone that rocked up to Groove Armada gig in PlayStation Home! The venue was literally swamped with you eager PlayStation gig-goers, and (most of you!) dressed to impress... (did I even spot a few glow sticks in the crowds?)

We filmed the gig in action so see if you can spot yourself in the melee below (extra kudos to those of you that managed to track down the limited edition VidZone Trilby btw...)

For those of you that missed the event. Check out the full, un-edited footage on the VidZone application (accessible via the XMB), where you can now watch the entire gig and some additional Q&A footage with Groove Armada.

Report: Sony is Now Losing Just $36 on Every PS3 Slim Sold

550°
246w ago - This is interesting.. According to [Register or Login to view links] Sony now losing just $36 on every PS3 Slim sold.

To quote: "The PlayStation 3 was the biggest risk yet for Sony with an estimated manufacturing cost between $690 and $805 when it first hit the market. The retail price was just $599 showing how much each sale hurt.

The saving grace, however, is the fact that manufacturing costs come down and most of the profit is generated from game sales rather than the hardware itself. In January Sony was thought to have reduced its manufacturing costs by 35% to just $448, but still $48 above the then $399 retail price.

Then the PS3 Slim was created which involved a development cost and new components. That pushed the loss back up to around $100, but was combined with a surge in sales increasing the profits garnered from game sales.

Now with Christmas fast approaching iSuppli has done a new report showing that Sony has reduced costs to $336 meaning each sale now only loses the company $36. That paves the way for profit at some point next year when certain PS3 Slim components fall in price."

Update #2: Despite Sony previously stating otherwise, [Register or Login to view links] reports that the Data Transfer Utility for the PlayStation 3 can transfer copy-protected saves from one PS3 system to another, to quote: "Even saved data that is copy-protected can be transferred (moved)."

Update: We have now added a PSP Mini Compatibility List for PS3 which will be updated periodically.

As previously reported, Sony has now updated to PS3 Firmware version 3.15. Remember, as stated by Sony, this is currently not a mandatory update.

It includes a fix for DualShock 3 pairing issues,...

Topatoi Arrives to Sony's PlayStation Network, Q&A Now Available

50°
247w ago - Today Boolat Games PR Manager Natalia Gorbanskaya has shared a Q&A for their recent addition to PlayStation Network, namely Topatoi.

To quote: It has been quite a while, but today I have some splendid news to share with you. First of all, the demo of Topatoi will be available this week. Check PSN on December 3rd to download it.

Also, I cannot talk about it right now, but we have more good stuff going next week, so keep in touch. I can assure you, it will be worth it.

And the last, but not the least, I've combined some of the most frequent questions we've been receiving from the fans and asked our guys to give some answers. And here it goes, the mini-interview with the team.

Q&A with Boolat Games team

Q: So, why have you decided to develop a puzzle/platformer game, not an RTS or racing game, in other words, something in the genres you've tried before?

A: Well, we decided to create something in a genre that was not heavily introduced at PS3 to lower the competition factor. Plus we always wanted to create an arcade and dynamic platformer.

Speaking of other genres, we didn't really felt strong enough to start breaking ice of an RTS genre on the consoles or compete with juggernaut franchises like Burnout, NFS or Motorstorm,...
