Wii Sports dominates Bafta awards

50°
360w ago - Nintendo's Wii Sports has swept the board at the 2007 British Academy Video Games Awards in London.

The energetic title took home awards in categories such as gameplay, strategy and simulation, innovation and sports.

The game allows players to compete in onscreen sporting events using the Wii's controller as a tennis racquet, golf club or even bowling ball.

However, the title did not manage to take the coveted best game award which went to Xbox title Bioshock.

The first-person shooter, released in August, is set in an underwater world populated by mutants and mechanical drones. It received acclaim from gamers and the Bafta judges.
The evening ended with Will Wright, creator of The Sims, being awarded a Bafta fellowship in recognition of more than 20 years' work in the industry.

Mr Wright is currently working on the hugely-anticipated life simulation game Spore.

366w ago - Following its extremely positive reception, BioShock is being eyed as a major new franchise by 2K Games parent Take-Two - which is already talking sequels.

The publisher's recently spoke of the possibility of hitting "roughly" a new BioShock release every two years.

"I would say, probably, roughly an every-two-year schedule would be optimal. And if you look historically, that has been largely the case with GTA, and I'd expect we'd apply roughly the same strategy to BioShock because BioShock is shaping up to be a very important franchise," Take-Two chairman Strauss Zelnick said in a conference call with analysts.

368w ago - As many of us know by now after installation of Bioshock for PC you are required to activate it online by connection to 2K's servers. Well on launch many users weren't able to instantly get a taste of that Bioshock goodness like that wanted. Instead they were greeted with issues while activating...
