Video: Fourth-Person Puzzler Pavilion is Coming to PS4 and PS Vita

25w ago - Visiontrick Media Co-founder and Creative Director Henrik Flink posted up a video today of their fourth-person puzzler Pavilion coming to PS4 and PS Vita platforms.

To quote: During Tokyo Game Show last year, we (Henrik and Rickard), together with Sony Japan, announced that Pavilion would be coming to PS4 and PS Vita in 2014. Still, most people might not have heard that much about Pavilion, so we felt it was time to shed some light on the game.

"Pavilion, the fourth-person puzzling adventure from Visiontrick Media, throws you directly into its mysterious world without any text tutorials or beginning explanations. It is a puzzle game portrayed through exploration and audio-visual imagery. By interacting and observing you gradually, bit by bit, learn things about both the puzzling gameplay and the world itself."

Let's talk a little bit about the term "fourth-person," which is something we've used over the past year to describe the way you interact with the main character. Basically, the character is not your avatar and you are not in control of him.

Instead, you have to find different ways - mostly through environmental interaction - to guide, influence or even force him to explore and fulfill the purpose of the world. This indirect control is what we refer to when we say...

The Swapper is Coming to PS3, PS4 and PS Vita in May 2014

50°
25w ago - Curve Studios PR and Marketing Manager Rob Clarke announced today that The Swapper is coming to PS3, PS4 and PS Vita in May 2014.

Below are the details, to quote: Our final PlayStation game announcement of the month is something I've wanted to talk about for a really long time. I'm now very happy to be able to tell you about our plans to bring the critically acclaimed puzzle-platformer, The Swapper, to PS3, PS4 and PS Vita this year.

The Swapper was released in 2013 on PC, and has had some amazing press coverage. It won numerous awards in the indie gaming scene for its story, graphics and puzzle design.

We're very lucky to be working with original developer Olli Harjola to bring the game to PlayStation formats, and the game is already looking beautiful on our PlayStation systems here at Curve towers, so we think you're in for a real treat.

The Swapper is set on Theseus, a damaged space station and research facility. It's a claustrophobic, dark, and atmospheric environment, but it's also very unique in style - there's no blocky pixel art and digital textures in this game, but instead handcrafted art and clay models designed by the original developers.

These real world props make up the many different environments in the game and provide The Swapper with an art...

Spry Fox Details Road Not Taken for PS4 and PlayStation Vita

50°
26w ago - Spry Fox Chief Creative Officer Daniel Cook detailed Road Not Taken for PS4 and PlayStation Vita for fans today.

To quote: This post is about Road Not Taken, Spry Fox's upcoming roguelike for PS4 & PS Vita. If this is your first time hearing about RNT, check out our trailers [Register or Login to view links]!

As we've mentioned in previous blog posts, Road Not Taken has procedurally-generated levels. That is, you get a completely new experience every time you venture into the forest.

When designing a game like [Register or Login to view links] or God of War, a designer must hand-select the placement of every corridor, every object, and every enemy in the game.

With Road Not Taken, we're not hand-selecting anything. We spend our time creating interesting objects and enemies, and then carefully defining the probabilities of when and where you will encounter them.

The process reminds me of Duchamp's painting 'Nude descending a Staircase, No. 2'. For thousands of years, humanity painted a single instant, captured in time. Duchamp, inspired by advances in motion pictures, decided to paint all the possible states of a woman walking down the stairs in a single painting.

To me, designing a roguelike is...

Deception IV: Blood Ties Hits PS3 and PlayStation Vita on March 25th

100°
26w ago - Sony Producer Keisuke Kikuchi announced today that Deception IV: Blood Ties hits PS3 and PlayStation Vita on March 25th, 2014.

Below are the details, to quote: The Deception series was born from the fusion of two gameplay concepts: playing as an evil character and using traps as weapons. The combination of these features creates a truly unique gameplay experience - one in which you can plan and lay out traps, lure enemies into them, find the right timing to activate them, and enjoy the reactions of your victims.

The thrill and anticipation as you watch for that perfect moment to press the button and activate a trap is a feeling we really strove to capture for players in Deception IV: Blood Ties, coming to PS3 and PS Vita March 25th.

The real fun, however, lies in combining these traps into combos. When your enemy slips on a Banana Peel, you could follow it up by pushing him into position with the Nudge Wall, picking him up with the Claw, and then finally taking him out with a strategically-placed arrow, for example.

Players can take advantage of the themed traps that come with each stage, and combine them with their own equipped...
