SCE Dev confirms limited LittleBigPlanet BETA in September

100°
315w ago - Sam_Protagonist, an SCE developer has just posted up at the Official PlayStation forums (linked above) that:

"There will be a limited public BETA test for LittleBigPlanet in September. If it will be possible to "sign up" for this test, full information on how to do so will be made public in advance of the test. Similarly if the test is going to be conducted in an invitation-only we will let you know ahead of time."

To quote in full: Hi all, here's your guide to what a beta test is, why it happens in the first place and what the different is between internal, external, public, private, open and closed.

A beta test takes place in order to test aspects of a game that cannot be checked using internal testing and QA staff. This is usually because of the number of people required to adequately test the game is far beyond the size of internal test departments. Often these tests are looking to ensure that balance, stability and various online functionality is working as planned, being conducted with enough time to make changes should the test indicate that work needs to be done.

Beta tests are described in a variety of ways, so here's a quick breakdown of what these various descriptions mean :

Internal - a test conducted only with people who work for the company (beyond...

PSN Cards to Arrive at Blockbuster, 7-Eleven, Rite Aid this September

50°
316w ago - Despite being promised for a "nationwide" rollout last Spring, pre-paid PSN cards are still a scarce commodity. That is, unless you have a Meijer nearby.

Truth be told, many of us don't, so it is reassuring to hear that Sony will be expanding availability of the cards to Blockbuster, 7-Eleven and Rite Aid stores across the continental United States later this September.

This is no doubt good news for those without access to a credit card or debit card account. We just can't fathom why it took them this long though.

To quote: Use your PlayStationŽNetwork card to purchase and download exclusive games, videos and more for your PLAYSTATIONŽ3 and PlayStationŽ Portable systems!

Visit your local Pamida, Meijer, Blockbuster and Speedway stores to pick up the PSNŽ card.

Retailers joining in September: Blockbuster, 7-Eleven and Rite Aid

We'll be adding more PLAYSTATIONŽ Network Card retailers soon. Check here for the latest updates.

Red Baron Arcade PSN Bound, Drops September 18, 2008

50°
316w ago - Sierra Entertainment today announced that Red Baron Arcade, a World War I based air combat game originally seen on PC, will hit the PlayStation Network later next month on September 18.

In addition to an expansive single-player campaign sprawling 36 missions, the game's online multiplayer aspect features three gameplay modes in all – Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, and Capture the Flag – each with support for up to eight players.

Sounds great, but seeing as the original received fairly mediocre reviews across the board, it'd be wise to try this one before buying.

Thankfully, a playable demo will be available on release day.

Rumor: Xbox 360's Fall Update Rolling Out Before September 7th?

50°
317w ago - Endsights writes: The rumor reads: "[The $199 SKU will feature] the traditional Arcade goodies (512MB memory card, etc.), the new Fall update pre-loaded as well as a motion controller and a few motion controlled mini games developed by Rare."

Aside from the motion-controller headline, the announcement of the Fall Dashboard Update (Xbox Experience) being pre-loaded on the system should raise some eyebrows.

If this rumor is true-that would mean that the new Xbox Experience would be hitting Xbox 360 consoles in the very near future; probably before September 7th rolls around.

Again, while this is speculation upon speculation, it is definitely something to look out for in the coming weeks.
