God of War III at E3 '09: Footage, Motion Control to be Revealed

300°
285w ago - It's no secret that Kratos will grace this year's E3 with his presence. Already, Sony's even made an announcement about an announcement: they'll be revealing God of War III's release date during the event. But what else will we get to see (or hear) about Kratos' trek up Olympus?

According to The Bitbag (linked above), we'll get lots of footage and more details - especially about controls. Says one Torrence Davis, to quote:

An insider at Sony has not only confirmed that there will be tons of God Of War 3 footage at E3, but also hinted that Sony fans will be getting some motion controls very soon.

While the footage part is to be expected, what gives me pause here is the bit about motion control. Back in February, it was revealed that the dev team at SCE Santa Monica said they didn't want to put in tilt-sensing controls because they couldn't figure out a way to incorporate it seamlessly. Doing so would have made it look "forced or gimmicky."

Ah well, whatever the case is, E3 is just around the corner now. We'll find out for sure come early June.

Sony's New PSP Go! Portable Storage Technology Revealed

400°
285w ago - Sources close to Sony PSP development have hinted what Sony's planning to stick in its rumored smaller, sleeker PSP Go! console.

Remember the [Register or Login to view links] back in January? The one where SanDisk revealed a panoply of tinier, higher-speed memory products? Think those.

Think specifically the trailing bullet point, the one where Sony and SanDisk "have co-developed two expanded Memory Stick formats." Think something like the Memory Stick HG-Micro, with a 60MB/s transfer rate, approximately 40MB/s faster than original Memory Stick Duo.

As for all the folks reporting the PSP Go!'s will include dedicated internal flash memory, they may want to think again.

Ask yourself this: Why would Sony bother?

Think about pricing. Think about forcing consumers to eat the extra memory cost when Sony needs to be price-competitive with Nintendo. Think about obsolescence if memory card speeds and capacities increase in the near term. 16GB of internal memory? That's pretty much nothing at all once you've pulled down a handful of movies and games and loaded up most of your music collection. Look at Apple's iPod Classic....

Killzone 2 DLC 'Steel & Titanium' Map Pack for PS3 Revealed

50°
288w ago - As a follow-up to the initial Killzone 2 DLC announcement, the details have now been revealed as follows:

It's a [Register or Login to view links] entitled Steel & Titanium. There will be two new maps in the pack; the first will be on the ISA flagship the New Sun (vertical play), and a map featuring 2 Helghan trains running right next to each other with environmental gotchas if you're in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Both are obviously ripped out of the single player missions; nevertheless, they sound fun.

Time-frame is end of April; no price announced but that doesn't mean it's free...

Oh yes, Guerrilla is working on map pack 2 already and the word to think about is "Retro."
