Sony: PS3 is the Only Console Powerful Enough for Killzone 2

50°
309w ago - On sale Tuesday 20th January, the latest issue of Official PlayStation Magazine UK will have the first official Killzone 2 review, Future publishing announced this morning.

Not only do you get a review, you get a "highly collectable" holographic wallet which has an image of a Helghast trooper on it and it also "shifts colour as the light catches it."

"Killzone 2 is without doubt the best looking game on the PlayStation 3, and we wanted to come up with a treatment that mirrored the visual voodoo which the development team at Guerrilla Games has pulled off," said Tim Clark, Editor in Chief of Official PlayStation Magazine UK.

"We couldn't be happier with the finished results."

David Wilson, UK PR Manager at Sony Computer Entertainment UK, added:

"Killzone 2 has been a long time in the making, and best showcases why PlayStation 3 is the only console powerful enough to deliver a ground-breaking title of this nature. Who better to partner with than the Official PlayStation Magazine, in order to offer the readers a special collectors edition issue. It's a great way to celebrate the launch of this milestone game."

Killzone 2 (PS3) Vs Crysis (PC): Screenshot Graphics Comparison

500°
309w ago - If there ever was a graphical battle to be fought between two titanous games, I don't think it would get any bigger than this.

Now many of you would presume that Crysis is two years old in comparison to KillZone 2, and that perhaps this is an uneven comparison in favor of KillZone 2. In actuality, it's the other way around.

You see, Crysis, at first, almost looks like it could wipe the floor with KZ2. But then in some shots they almost look very much alike. Now you can yell shenanigans from here to Rovigo, but it doesn't change the fact that Crysis is still one kick-butt powerhouse when it comes to graphical presentation. Especially considering that the first KillZone 2 screenshot is a promotional shot from Sony.

In comparison, Crysis maintains a very smooth, airy look to its atmosphere. The clarity presented in both the gameplay and the screenshots are very much consistent. KillZone 2, alternatively, is grimey and dirty. But that's not what makes it look less appealing.

It's the fact that the colors are all variants of a grey-scheme palette. In a way, everything looks like metal; wood looks like metal; dirt looks like metal; blood even looks like dirty metal. That's not to say that it doesn't look good, it's just that everything looks like it was dipped in a coating of dirty,...

Review: Killzone 2 for the PlayStation 3 Console - 9.9/10 Overall

250°
309w ago - MEGamers write: Truth is, all my life I've been an ardent PC gamer that scoffed at inferior FPS experiences on the console. My colleagues always teased me for being a hardcore PC fanatic (fancy name for "fanboy").

It's a given fact that PC gamers are much harder to please in terms of quality or gameplay and hence, console FPS ports are always a disappointment.

Throughout the years, being an extremist that I am, console games like Halo 3 only managed a "hmmmm", while few others like Resistance 2 and Gears of War 2 never went beyond the "meh" factor.

After the recent buzz and hype behind Sony's upcoming FPS, I decided to sit down and spend some quality time with the game and I cannot deny the truth... Killzone 2 has made me a believer!

Killzone 2 sees you take the role of Thomas Sev of the ISA, tasked with a nightmarish war on a planet called "Helgan", home to a populace of pissed off half-humans called "Helghast". For those wondering, Killzone 2 is not merely a shoot-em-up title involving big guns and brutal enemies.

The game's story runs deep and the enemies you're fighting against have a long and sorrowful past of torture and repression. The first thing that becomes apparent when you land on Helgan is the beauty of destruction - A...

Killzone 2 for PS3 to Blast More Than 100 Death Animations

50°
310w ago - A Sony rep has revealed that the final version of Killzone 2 will feature over 100 death animations. Obviously the death animation will vary depending on where the enemy is shot.

To quote: A Sony Corp. representative this month said that the title Killzone 2 for the PlayStation 3 will feature more than 100 death animations in the final game.

At the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, NV, the representative said that death animations will vary depending on where the enemy is shot.

Kills demonstrated in the Nov. beta and at CES include instant-drop kills from headshots to more relishing back shots that cause the soldier to writhe a bit before the sweet release of death.

Killzone 2 is the first-person sequel to the PlayStation 2 release, Killzone. It is scheduled to be released on Feb. 27.

Sony Justifies Pre-Order-Only Killzone 2 Demo, Dates PSN Version

50°
310w ago - Sony has attempted to justify its policy in North America where gamers will only get the KillZone 2 demo if they pre-order the game.

MTV Multiplayer received this response from Scott Steinberg, vice president of product marketing at Sony Computer Entertainment America:

Offering a playable demo to motivate preorders speaks to our confidence in the appeal of a game such as Killzone 2. We take this approach when we are convinced that the experience will cement a consumer's interest in purchasing.

Retailers will then merchandise those demos within their stores and online to maximize their visibility. Through this process, consumers are often times able to reserve their copy of the final game, which provides an incentive to purchase and helps seal the deal.

We also offer demos on the PSN, which we have done in the past with great success, and will continue to make that available. Killzone 2, for example, will have a downloadable demo launch in North America the week that the game is launching, for consumers who prefer that option.

And what if you don't pre-order "Killzone 2″ but want to try the demo? It's slated for release as a download from the PlayStation Network on PS3 for Thursday, February 26, a day before the game's official release date. That...
