EA to Destroy Videogaming Starting August 21st

50°
328w ago - Industry giant and evil overlord Electronic Arts reported this morning that it had finished its wheeling and dealing with the Federal Trade Commission concerning the takeover of Take Two Interactive.

In its regulatory filing, EA said it would not go through with the previously offered $2 billion deal (because Take Two rejected it), and would instead return to the table, presumably with hired goons, no sooner than August 21 of this year. The news apparently convinced some people that this deal will happen, as stock prices rose for both companies. We have just experienced the beginning of the end.

The average gamer knows this to be true. It was a sad day when EA acquired BioWare, and that's just one developer. Take Two represents one of the four legs (along with EA, Ubisoft, and ActiBlizzion) that holds up the bed of videogames that we all sleep in. Combining two of those legs into one will certainly make the bed unstable, and we will most likely not have as much fun in it any more for fear that it will break and splinters will pierce our fun-parts.

The EA Sports games are a perfect example of what a lack of competition does to the quality of their products. EA just doesn't give a shit. They know that if you want NFL-branded football, you will buy their game, so they have no motivation...

EGM August '08 Rumor: Xbox 360 to get Hefty Price Cut this Fall

50°
331w ago - The latest rumor in the soon to be released issue of EGM (August, 2008) speculates that Microsoft is set to announce a huge price cut on Xbox 360 SKU's this fall.

This rumor comes courtesy of Clinton514 @ GAF.

No other details were given, but it's a well-known fact that Microsoft is aiming to appeal to a more casual gamer market... and by dropping the 360's price by a considerable margin it seems like the most logical step.

Time will tell for sure!

PC Gamer Hints Diablo 3 on August 2008 Edition?

50°
335w ago - Another fan-fueled Diablo Rumor Mill has propelled out in full swing after PC Gamer's July edition wrapped up with the following text:

"NEXT MONTH: Have you ever had a secret that you're just dying to blurt out, but you can't for another month, and the stress of holding it in makes you want to do the pee-pee dance? That's what the PC Gamer staff is doing right now, because the August issue will be chock-full of exclusives, including a top-secret cover story so huge we had to go to [CENSORED] to get it. Just 30 days more ..."

Here are a few thoughts to ponder on this brainstorming puzzle PC Gamer unleashed:

- PC Gamer was probably among the Gaming press Magazines who visited Blizzard Entertainment early on May, a few weeks ago.

- If you remember, PC Gamer knew about the Starcraft II announcement last May 2007. Blizzard Entertainment made the announcement at the Blizzard Worldwide Invitationals (WWI) at Seoul, South Korea.

- PC Gamer can't talk about it for the next 30 days ... the 2008 Blizzard Worldwide Invitationals at Paris, France takes place on June 28-29.

- June 29 is the date Diablo II shipped on USA (2000) and the same date the expansion Lord of Destruction shipped on Europe a year later (2001).

- Notice how PC Gamer replaces a swearing...

XBox 360 overhaul to come in August

50°
338w ago - According to EDN newspaper in China, Pegatron Technology (offspring of Asustek, in case you're wondering), has managed to grab the highly-denied "Blu-Ray for Xbox360" deal of the year.

We imagine Microsoft denied the existence of such unit, not to shield its upcoming launch from the competition's prying marketeers, but rather because its staff were responding in default "mirror" mode whereby hacks that asked the Vole if they had plans for a BD add-on, they received a 100% flat/honest "No". True. All things considered, it won't be an add-on.

The newspaper adds that Pegatron will assemble Microsoft's console with the in-built BD player, with units hitting the market in Q3/2008 - Mid-summer, as it were.

This goes head-on with Dean Takahashi's info on the Xbox 360 "Jasper" platform that is scheduled for August of this year. We'd already mentioned this platform over here, btw. The Jasper will feature a shrunken 65nm ATI graphics core and "smaller memory chips". This does make more sense if you're using the new GPU core to aid you in decoding HD on Blu-ray, too.

So that's about it, major Xbox 360 platform overhaul coming this summer, with some time to spare for Christmas - Blu-ray, faster graphics and what is likely to be an all-round cooler console...
