PAIN Trophies coming in September!

50°
317w ago - Posted by Travis Williams (Sr. Producer, SCEA) today:

Hello everyone it's Travis Williams, PAIN Producer, again and I wanted to take some time to tell you about the new PlayStation Network Trophies being added to PAIN Downtown.

The last trophy I ever "earned" was in ROTC. That was way back in High School (tragic I know). So, I have been really excited to see PlayStation 3 trophies make their way into games both old and new. It's a new way to show your "ePump-a-tude". PAIN already features internal trophies that make the modes challenging.

That's why it's so awesome to get to make a whole new set of trophies. Here's a list of some of the Trophies you will see next month. If the names seem sophomoric or juvenile to you, then you clearly haven't been playing PAIN enough. That's kinda "How We Do."

To answer some questions before they come up...

Q: When will Trophies be available for PAIN?
A: When the Amusement Park ships on 9-4-2008 we will update PAIN to include trophies.

Q: When does Amusement Park ship?
A: Duh

Q: Are Trophies retroactive?
A: Most of the trophy requirements are new so we haven't tracked your progress until now. Some work you will get credit for.

Q: Are you CRAZY?!

SOCOM: Confrontation BETA Begins September 1

50°
317w ago - The SOCOM team today announced that the public Confrontation BETA test, briefly mentioned back in June, will go live on September 1. There's going to be two ways to get in on the action.

Firstly, if you pre-order the game at GameStop – online or at retail, you'll be able to access the BETA on day one. Additionally, you can share your BETA access code with up to two friends.

Another ticket into the BETA will be given to Qore viewers. Subscribers of the service and those who purchase the June issue will be able to download the SOCOM: Confrontation public beta from within Qore on September 8 through the 30th.

Keep in mind that all of the above information applies to North American residents only. Sony plans to announce public BETA details for other regions at a later date.

Xbox 360 to Cut Arcade Prices to $199.99 on September 7th

50°
317w ago - The following appears to confirm the rumored Xbox 360 price cuts, check out the new promotional price showing on-screen.

To quote: This picture is confirmation of the earlier Ars Technica article from an informant stating that the Xbox 360 would drop it's price in September to $199.99 for the Core, $299.99 for the 60GB model, and $399.99 for the 120GB Elite model. This picture shows nearly irrefutable proof that those rumors are substantiated, and are set to happen in just over a month.

Calculating the Impact of the $199.99 Price Point
Microsoft has been no stranger to the $199.99 price point. In interviews, high brass officials from Microsoft have stated they are 'very aware' that the $199.99 is the sweet spot for console sales. Earlier this year, a weakening Xbox 360 had it's price re-vamped to the 199 Euro price point in February. According to VGChartz.com tracking information, this price drop has allowed the Xbox 360 to gain traction, and sell 100% more units in the February-July timeframe - From an estimated 750,00 to 1,750,000 units in the 6 month timeframe.

Could a similar boost happen in the United States? It is entirely possible: Such a price point will leave the Xbox 360 as the lowest priced Next-Gen console on the market ($50 below the Wii's $249.99 price point), and digging...

Resistance 2 BETA coming in September via Qore

50°
319w ago - Just like how the Socom BETA is set up already via Qore, R2 BETA is coming in September Qore episode.

In a statement released today, Insomniac clarified that there will be "many" ways to get access into the BETA, including a pre-order campaign. Additionally, there will be ways for PS3 owners living in regions outside of North America to get in the BETA as well. Details have yet to be announced, but be rest assured that signing-up for Qore is not the only way.

While details are scant, those who are signed-up for Sony's digital-based Qore magazine will receive an exclusive invite to a BETA of Insomniac's highly anticipated PS3 first-person shooter Resistance 2 in September.

It's not yet known as to how invites will be given out - though we assume only those who have purchased an annual ($25) subscription to the service will be on the receiving end. Expect more details soon.
