Level-5 Reveals Five New Games

100°
308w ago - Yesterday Ushiro for PSP was announced by Level-5, and today they have unveiled another four titles as well.

For those who didn't know, Level-5 is the independent Japanese developer who was worked on everything from early PlayStation 2 RPG Dark Cloud to the world-beating, epic Dragon Quest VIII.

The games set to be unveiled, as profiled by this week's issue of Weekly Famitsu magazine, are as follows:

Ninokuni: The Another World (Nintendo DS, with an port to an unspecified console also planned) is an RPG starring a 13-year-old boy who's invited into a magical fantasy land by a spirit, a world eerily close to Earth that's under the rule of a dark sorcerer.

There he hopes to deal with the issues that haunt his life, not the least of which being that he was responsible for his mother's passing not long ago. This project is no doubt the biggest announcement of the day, mainly thanks to one small detail: Studio Ghibli, Japan's most famous animation studio, is working on Ninokuni's animated sequences, the first time the company has ever provided original work for a video game.

Danboru Senki (PSP) is a build-and-fight RPG with more than a passing resemblance...

Ion Reveals $299.99 Price for Premium Rock Band Drums

50°
319w ago - Thought $180 for the original Rock Band package was expensive? You ain't seen nothing yet.

The official Web site for Ion's professional Drum Rocker (as recently revealed in Game Informer) lists a $299.99 price for the deluxe drum controller. Only the Xbox 360 version of the set is currently available for pre-order, though Wii and PS3 editions are "expected to ship later in the year," according to the site.

It's important to note that this is not the official drum set that will be packaged with Rock Band 2, but rather an officially licensed deluxe set that works with both Rock Band games.

While $300 may sound steep (soon, you could get a whole 'nother Xbox 360 for that price), Ion sounds like they've gone to great lengths to make sure serious virtual drummers get their money's worth. According to the site, the four high-durability, quiet, velocity-sensitive pads can be mounted and rearranged in any position and even outfitted with "professional drum brains" from Alesis. Add in a metal-reinforced kick pedal (with velcro and spikes to prevent slippage) and two packaged, mountable cymbals (with the option to add a third) and you've got what's unquestionably the Rolls Royce of drum controllers.

The Web site also has a short video and...

Nintendo Power reveals Castlevania Judgement for Wii

50°
321w ago - According to GoNintendo (linked above): I know you guys wouldn't believe this unless I had proof. Reader Blissteria was nice enough to take some pictures from the latest issue of Nintendo Power. I am only going to post one, due to 'fair use'.

Also, I just wanted to make sure that you guys believed the news!

Characters confirmed thus far - Dracula, Simon, Alucard, Shanoa, and Maria Renard. Classic subweapons - holy water, magic spells, dagger, boomerang. Subweapon use still depends on hearts, and it offers remixed classic Castlevania tunes.

Finally, Set traps, destroyable environments, enemy monsters interfere with battle. Nunchuck controls character movement, Wiimote used for motion attacks.

Not exactly what we were thinking, is it?!

Insider reveals XMB Firmware v2.40 features, set for E3 launch

250°
321w ago - Update: Since the original story went live, further information regarding the inclusion of trophies in the 2.40 update became available. As expected full 2D trophy support will be in the XMB update and there will be four types: Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum.

Platinum is only awarded when you have collected all other trophies in a game. Also there are no gamer points, it's all done via a levelling up system. Think Call of Duty 4 leveling up system, we reckon.

According to Future Publishing, an insider has dropped by to tell them that firmware v2.40 is set to launch in around three weeks time and has also revealed all the features.

The XMB features that you will be able to access in game include - friend category, messages, manage downloads, set vibration, sign in to PSN, register friends, bluetooth devices, music category, use system BGM, work system BGM operation panel, settings, assign controllers, view profiles, game category, set audio devices and use the voice channel. The update will allow you to play back custom tracks in-game from XMB music column although it's not sure if this is only compatible with new titles.

To quote: A quick look at the diary reveals that E3 is just under three weeks away. It doesn't take a genius to see that Sony's pre-E3 conference would...
