550°
151w ago - NIS America PR / Marketing Coordinator Nao Zook has announced today that Disgaea 3: Absence of Detention will be hitting the PS Vita this April and will be the handheld console's first RPG release.

To quote: Today, I would like to share our brand new trailer for Disgaea 3: Absence of Detention for the PlayStation Vita system. Disgaea 3 for the PS Vita will be released in April.

We are really excited about Disgaea 3 coming out on the PS Vita over here. Yes, it is a port of the PlayStation 3 version, but it will be equipped with new character stories, new systems, new attack levels, new bosses, and will include all the DLC that was released for the PS3 version, all on one card.

So even if you have already played Disgaea 3 on the PS3 system, you'll have something new to experience with this PS Vita version!

Of course, there will be some PS Vita specific systems integrated into the game, as well. For example, there is a system called "Honor Quotient," which uses the GPS to track how far you've traveled while playing the game. The more you travel, the higher your Honor Quotient will rise (you'll be able to increase your Honor Quotient by winning battles, increasing your total play time, and by other means as well).

With a high Honor Quotient, you will be able...

400°
152w ago - Naughty Dog Co-President Evan Wells has announced today that Jak and Daxter Collection will be hitting PS3 on February 7, 2012 alongside detailing the PS3 Trophies below as follows:

The wait is almost over, Jak and Daxter fans! I'm happy to announce that Jak and Daxter Collection launches in North America on February 7th. In a few short weeks you'll be able to score the first three installments of the Jak and Daxter trilogy in one complete PS3 Blu-ray package for just $39.99.

Each game has been fully remastered to feature 720p HD visuals and stereoscopic 3D functionality, and one of the coolest new additions to the titles in Jak and Daxter Collection is the introduction of Trophy support.

When the series debuted on PS2 over 10 years ago, we didn't have Trophies. For our jump to PS3, Mass Media crafted custom Trophies for you to earn for all three titles in the collection.

The team at Mass Media has created intricate Trophies, each featuring a unique variation on a design theme based around its mission type. There are over 100 to collect including three Platinum Trophies, so you completionists will have hours of Trophy-hunting fun to look forward to.

Here's a sneak peek at some of the Trophies that will be up for grabs:

TikGames: The Making of Stick Man Rescue, Hits PSN Tomorrow

100°
152w ago - Today Howard Lehr at TikGames has shared details on the making of Stick Man Rescue, which will be hitting fans on PSN tomorrow.

To quote: Stick Man Rescue was born of a conversation with my 12-year old son, Colin. He had just discovered the freeware Pivot Stick Figure Animator and, like any 12-year-old boy would, he was using it to make hilarious death animations.

Given that game designers are perpetual 12-year-olds at heart, I joined in. This prompted visits to various stick man death websites which provided a surprisingly long-lasting source of giggles that attracted my younger son. Soon the three of us were pondering how to make stick deaths into a video game.

Dusting off my rusty programming and non-existent art skills, I co-opted my kids to start making animated gifs of stick deaths and created a prototype game bent on seeing how many of our most ridiculous ideas could be worked into it.

So, I had a prototype as you can see, but had a long way to go to turn it into something that could be useful for a real game design.

Working at a publisher and developer like [Register or Login to view links] has its advantages. First, there are a bunch of talented people around to help hone ideas into something that works. I enlisted the help of Adrian Ludley,...

Video: Unit 13 Hits PS Vita March 6th, Covert Mission Walkthrough

100°
154w ago - SCEA Director of Development Seth Luisi has made available a Covert Mission Walkthrough video today for Unit 13, which will be infiltrating the PlayStation Vita handheld on March 6, 2012.

To quote: We are at CES this week showing off the latest, near-final build of Unit 13 and we have something special in store for the community.

First, in case you missed the announcement from the PS Vita CES keynote yesterday afternoon, Unit 13 is scheduled for release on Tuesday, March 6th. We are quite excited to bring this new title to PS Vita.

Thanks to the excellent dual analogs sticks on the Vita, Unit 13 represents the first full shooter experience on a portable gaming device.

We also have, as another exclusive, the first view of the North American box front!

But what I am really here for is to provide an exclusive video walkthrough of a new level and game type in Unit 13. This is the first detailed video walkthrough of a Covert mission:

For those not keeping up on Unit 13, there are four different mission types. Direct Action missions are larger, multiple objective missions that reward tactical play.

Deadline missions are medium-sized missions where players have to...

Video: Choplifter HD Hits PS3 on PSN Tuesday, Zombies Included

250°
154w ago - Leader inXile CEO Brian Fargo has announced today alongside a video trailer that Choplifter HD will be hitting PS3 on PSN Tuesday and includes zombies!

To quote: I really get a kick out of the fact that I am now considered an "indie" again after all these years.

I have been making games for nearly 30 years, having built a top-five PC publishing house called Interplay around such major franchises as The Bard's Tale, Wasteland, Baldur's Gate, Fallout, Descent and more.

In the early days, I developed games for other companies and moved up the food chain to become a publisher so that I could make games "my way."

And here I sit, again readying our first major release in Choplifter HD as a digital publisher and having created the game the way I wanted. Our company tagline at [Register or Login to view links] was "By Gamers. For Gamers" and it is those same values we used in creating Choplifter HD.

Choplifter was a very important game when it was originally released back in 1982 and achieved #1 status at the time. Dan Gorlin, the original creator, really understood the humanness of saving little people from tough situations.

It was a great action game for sure, but there was something about saving those little guys. And certainly...
