Final Fantasy XIII no longer a PS3 Exclusive!

700°
327w ago - The announcement was made earlier today that FFXIII is coming out on Xbox 360 too. In fact, it'll be a simultaneous release on both PS3 and Xbox 360 for US and Europe. Today's Square Enix E3 press conference clarified a few details.

First: Final Fantasy XIII is still a PS3-exclusive... at least in Japan. According to Kotaku, Square Enix exec Shinji Hashimoto told reporters: "I think you are right [in assuming that (the Xbox 360 version) is not coming out in Japan.]" It will only appear on Xbox 360 in English-speaking territories.

In addition, Final Fantasy XIII will release in Japan first -- and then will be localized for the international audience. That means Japanese gamers will enjoy FFXIII on PS3 long before the rest of the world will see it go multiplatform.

Hashimoto says that the Xbox 360's large install base in English territories is what led to the decision to make the game multiplatform. Because the decision was recent, there's no way of estimating how many discs the Xbox 360 version will be.

Also, Final Fantasy Versus XIII is still in development as a PS3 exclusive.

Resident Evil 5 Exclusive Time Frame? No Way!

50°
331w ago - If you haven't heard by now, rumors are starting to fly around concerning Resident Evil 5 and an announcement at E3. The biggest (likely nothing more than the result of Xbox Fanboys) is that RE 5 will have some sort of exclusive time frame for the Xbox 360. Meaning PS3 owners will have to wait months if not years.

Sounds 100% bogus to me. Capcom did put on paper that there will be a "huge" announcement regarding their beloved Resident Evil Franchise, however if there was some sort of time frame, what does Capcom or Microsoft earn?

Yes, Microsoft could be in a position to sell a "few" more systems. But they would shell out a pretty penny for it. Ask yourself, is it worth it for them? The answer is clearly no. Look at RE4 for the Nintendo Gamecube. If you forgot, Nintendo and Capcom also had a time frame before the PS2 version. Did that even come close to saving the cube from ending up being in third place in the console wars? Of course not.

Also what would Capcom earn? Yes they get money from Microsoft, but at the same time they really limit themselves in terms of units sold. Remember, at this point, no matter what MS really does, they have a hard time moving systems in Japan. Even having exclusives that appeal to a Japanese market hasn't helped. In the end this scenario (if true)...

IGA Partners with EA for Exclusive PS3 In-Game Advertising Deal

50°
333w ago - Sony has recently revealed that they have plans to open up the PS3 to in-game advertising from outside agancies. In-game ad company IGA Worldwide is widely tipped to become the first company to deliver dynamic adverts to games on the PS3 console.

Andy Swanson, a Ubisoft director commented that Sony's decision to do this will strengthen the viability of in-game advertising field in general and should be positive in terms of growing the ad revenue for games.

To quote: Sony is set to ignite the world of advertising in videogames Wednesday, when it plans to announce it is opening its gaming platform to in-game ads from outside agencies.

In-game ad firm IGA Worldwide is expected to become the first company to get the nod to deliver dynamic ads to games on Sony's PlayStation 3. Competitor Double Fusion is believed to be finalizing its own relationship with Sony (nyse: SNE - news - people ).

Andy Swanson, Ubisoft's senior director of strategic sales and partnerships, agrees that Sony's move will strengthen the viability of in-game advertising. Sony and the PlayStation brand resonate strongly with advertising agencies, he says. "[It's] been a big missing piece of the puzzle; it's a positive in terms of growing the ad revenue pie for games."

Exclusive Info on the New PS3 Controller unveiled!

334w ago - Sev1512 of PlayStationLifeStyle writes: It has been brought to my attention that PlayStation Underground held a secret focus group earlier this year.

A small group of PS3 owners were sent to a facility in [undisclosed location], California to test a new PlayStation product in development.

Once inside the testing facility, these PS3 owners were shown a mini-tripod that stood about 12 inches high. and what looked like 4 black PS3 "wiimotes". Well they were essentially "wiimotes" for the PS3, but didn't need a "nunchuck" attachment. I will refer to them as "PS3motes" for now on.

You can have up to 4 of these "PS3motes" connected at one time. A demonstrator at this focus group was there showing off the "PS3motes" capabilities, along with some mini-games to play. The mini games ranged from tennis, to fencing, to a "really really cool" paintball game. The demonstrator even used the "PS3mote" to play "Quake" on his laptop.

The "PS3mote" is said to be incredibly responsive and accurate. When the demonstrator crouched while playing the paintball game, the character on screen did as well.

The biggest concern of the demonstrator was that for these "PS3motes" to work they needed the tripod, which connected to the PS3's USB...
