Motorstorm 2 to be Four Player Split Screen Island Getaway

50°
342w ago - Darren Waters of the BBC has confirmed that Motorstorm 2 will feature a four player split screen option, thus fixing one of the key missing features in the first game.

Waters goes on to mention the game is months away from completion, but the engine looks superb and the graphics as you'd expect were very impressive.

To quote: Here's what I was shown:

Motorstorm 2 is due out in time for Christmas and moves the action away from the desert locale of the original. Gamers will be able to race around a lush island environment, full of interactive vegetation.

The game will feature four-player split-screen action, righting one of the obvious failings of the first game.

The title is some months away from completion but the game's engine looked rock solid and the graphics were as impressive as one would expect from one of the best-looking racing franchises.

Cheap $199 Blu-ray Player Announced... for the PC

50°
357w ago - If price is the battleground where the war between Blu-ray and HD DVD will be fought, then Philips and Lite-On Digital Solutions fired a new salvo on Tuesday, with the announcement of a $199 drive.

Unfortunately, the internal PLDS DH-4O1S drive is not the official answer to the $99 Toshiba HD DVD player that went on sale at Wal-mart last week. The DH-401S is an internal drive for the PC that simply plays back Blu-ray, DVD, and CD discs, although the manufacturers noted that a PC equipped with the drive could be connected via an HDMI cable to a TV.

The Blu-ray format desperately needs some price competition, however. A Blu-ray DVD burner from Philips costs just under $480, and a similar search of Blu-ray players at the same retailer fails to turn up a price lower than $400. (The Toshiba HDA2 HD DVD player costs $269, at least from Newegg.) If consumers simply view the HD DVD vs. Blu-ray battle as one based on price, HD DVD appears poised to overcome the lead Blu-ray holds and start buying...
