Sony Invites Fans to Enter the Impossible World of Relativity on PS4

11w ago - Developer and Designer Willy Chyr invites fans to enter the impossible world of Relativity on PS4 today with details below.

To quote: Hello! My name is Willy Chyr - I'm an artist and indie game developer based in Chicago. I'm happy to announce that my game Relativity will be coming to PS4 in 2015, and you will get to try it at PlayStation Experience next month in Las Vegas!

Relativity is a game that re-imagines the laws of the universe. What if the normal rules of gravity no longer applied? The basic mechanic of the game is the ability to change gravity, allowing you to re-orient yourself to walk on walls and ceilings. In this world, up is down and down is up. It's all relative.

Let's take a look at what an early puzzle in the game is like. In the gif below, we need to get the purple block to stay on the purple square in order to unlock a door, but the block keeps sliding down. The solution: we lock the blue block in place while in the blue gravity, and then use it as a shelf to hold up the purple block.

What you just saw is the basic gameplay mechanic. But Relativity is more than just about stacking cubes - there is an entire world full of wonder and impossible...

Ex-Sony Engineer Kazuya Sakakihara Left His Name Inside Every PS4

400°
11w ago - Today Kotaku reports that Ex-Sony Engineer Kazuya Sakakihara left his name inside every PlayStation 4 console, and requires no PS4 decryption to see it because it's written as a text string.

Below are the details, to quote: "Kazuya Sakakihara spent ten years working at Sony as a senior software engineer, helping bring both the PS3 and PS4 to the world. He's no longer at the company (parting ways in early 2013), but before he left he made sure his name quite literally lives on inside the code of pretty much every PlayStation 4.

As you can see here, in this snippet sent in by [Register or Login to view links], Sakakihara has left his name inside the PS4's HDD code. Now, coders leaving "calling cards" is nothing new, it happens all the time, but it's usually left in the "[Register or Login to view links]", the parts where humans leave human messages for other humans. And even then, it's often in the form of initials. Sakakihara's full name is lying there in the actual code, and doesn't require any kind of decryption to see it.

Sure beats scrawling it on the bathroom wall on his last day at the office.

Interestingly, his name also has a typo. I wonder if that was just that, a typo, or whether it was a concession...

Video: Lost Orbit PS4 is Coming to PlayStation 4 in Early 2015

11w ago - PixelNAUTS Co-founder Chris Iacobucci posted up a PS4 video trailer today announcing that Lost Orbit is coming to PlayStation 4 in early 2015.

Below are the details, to quote: Stranded after his ship is destroyed in deep space by a strange anomaly, Harrison, a lowly maintenance worker and our hero, must struggle to survive.

It's been a challenge defining Lost Orbit from the beginning. At its core, it's a fast-paced action game, but there are flowing moments of serenity. It's not unfair to describe it, as we often have, as a death simulator.

It's the union of three distinct elements: fast paced action, flowing cathartic flight, and death. In truth, the best way to describe it is to make up a new phrase: Lost Orbit is a "dodge 'em up."

On Speed

Our pathetic hero, Harrison, must take matters into his own hands in order to find salvation quickly before he freezes, or starves to death in the depths of space. There is a lot of motivation in Lost Orbit to go fast.

Not the least of which is that it's fun. Lost Orbit presents you with simple to learn mechanics that, once mastered, will enable you to blaze through levels. Upgrading Harrison's kit allows players to customize...

TowerFall Dark World Expansion Coming Early 2015 to PlayStation 4

50°
11w ago - Indie Game Developer Matt Makes Games Inc Matt Thorson confirmed today that their TowerFall Dark World Expansion is coming in early 2015 to PlayStation 4.

To quote: It's hard to believe that it's been 8 months since TowerFall Ascension launched on PS4. I have to thank all of our wonderful fans on PlayStation - the community response has been fantastic.

Since launching TowerFall, we've had countless requests for new levels, characters, power-ups, and modes. A lot of your suggestions have been really valuable, and after I recovered from the game's launch back in March, I began forming new ideas of my own. Slowly but surely, our plans for an expansion took shape. I'm excited to announce that the Dark World Expansion will hit PS4 in early 2015.

We want to call this an expansion rather than DLC, because it expands the game in every direction rather than providing small incremental additions. Approaching it this way allows us to tie all the new stuff together in a very cohesive manner. For you this means more playable archers, levels, modes, power-ups, variants, trials, and more.

Joining the roster we have the red archer, the Vainglorious Ghoul. As her appearance suggests, she captains an infamous ghost ship known as The Amaranth. The Amaranth, it turns out, is also one of four...
