Video: Destiny: How 4.6 Million People Forged Bungie's Sci-Fi Epic

9w ago - Sony Content Producer Tom Wallis shared a Destiny video today on how 4.6 million people forged Bungie's Sci-Fi epic below.

To quote: Back in July 2014, the doors were thrown open to Bungie's sprawling universe - the [Register or Login to view links] beta had arrived.

For just one week the developers invited players to journey to the last safe city on Earth, and venture out into Old Russia...and over 4.6 million people got involved.

PlayStation.Blog caught up with three key developers from Bungie to talk about the significance of the beta, and how it has ultimately made the final version of Destiny that you'll play next month a better game.

"Let's make one thing clear," Jonty Barnes, creative director on Destiny tells us just four weeks before the game's official launch, "From the very beginning, the Destiny beta was a very big test for us - we put a huge investment into our online infrastructure and we needed to make sure it worked."

"We tested every part of the game, and each group at Bungie was able to analyze the data and take what they needed from it," adds Derek Carroll, a senior designer working primarily on the multiplayer aspects of the game.

InFamous First Light by Sucker Punch Productions Out Today on PS4

100°
9w ago - Sucker Punch Productions Game Director Nate Fox announced that InFamous First Light is out today on PS4 with details below.

To quote: Yes, sir! [Register or Login to view links] is out today on PlayStation Store for $14.99.

Gamers can dive right in and experience Abigail "Fetch" Walker's origin story, from her brutal time on the streets of Seattle to her DUP training in Curdun Cay to become an assassin.

Fetch's unchained Neon powers and her hand-to-hand fighting are all new. To master Fetch's abilities you'll have to get used to moving fast, very fast. She can effortlessly run up the side of buildings, make an epic jump across three rooftops, then come down hard to slam into an enemy's head, all without slowing down.

Fetch gets in close with a quick blur of hits and then knocks guys across the room with decisive finishers. When her back's against the wall, she can use her most powerful ability, the neon singularity, to suck enemies up into the air and crush them into a tight little ball before they're scattered across the city. She's the most high velocity and fluid character we've ever created.

This explosive gameplay demands a challenge equal...

Video: Hello Games on No Man's Sky - A Whole Universe to Explore

9w ago - Hello Games Managing Director Sean Murray shared details below today on No Man's Sky proclaiming it's a whole universe to explore on PlayStation 4!

To quote: Hello PlayStation.Blog! I'm Sean Murray, and I work at a little indie studio in the UK, making a game called [Register or Login to view links] on PS4.

I'm writing this on a plane back from Gamescom, where we showed some press the game behind closed doors.

We've only done three days where we've talked to press about the game so far (two at E3 and one at the VGXs last year), but for an indie game we've had lots of interest and excitement. Something I'm still struggling to get my head around.

So much so that I didn't actually want to go to Gamescom! We've never actually shown any European press the game though, and we felt bad about that.

PlayStation provided a room and I gave a hundred press a demo of the game for an hour, together with a really rambling presentation... where I apparently never looked up at the crowd once.

I can't really remember what I said, but I guess I wanted to share some stories from development, and I thought maybe you'd find them interesting, too.

We tell people...

Roll7: OlliOlli is Out Today on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3

50°
9w ago - General Dogsbody Simon Bennett at Roll7 announced that OlliOlli is officially out today on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3 platforms.

Below are the details, to quote: OlliOlli almost never happened. It was only a kick under the table from Studio Director Tom Hegarty that pushed Creative Director John Ribbins into taking the prototype out of his pocket in our first meeting with PlayStation. Shahid Ahmad at Strategic Content signed the game there and then and the rest, as they say, is history.

The game has since been a runaway hit on PS Vita, topping the charts, getting a GOTM, and sitting alongside AAA monsters in top game lists for 2014.

However, in hindsight celebrations on January 21st were a little more mixed at Roll7 HQ in Deptford, London. As the team sat together on launch of the game, news of a bug was already circulating with a handful of journalists - there was a genuine worry that the bug might affect a significant user base. We kept an eye online from the moment that the game hit and thankfully it appeared that only a few small number of users were affected.

The team was due to start work on an as-of-yet unannounced project, however we never questioned getting the bug fixed at all costs. Possibly it was naivety on our part, possibly it was stupidity - but we put...
