200°
226w ago - Today we have a few new PS JailBreak videos from ModchipCentral, who put God Of War III and ModNation Racers to the test with PS JailBreak on the PS3 entertainment system.

As seen in the videos below, both God Of War III and ModNation Racers have been confirmed as working with the PS3 USB Modchip.

While most end-users are still awaiting their PSJailBreak devices to arrive, jimihat has started a PSJailBreak / x3JailBreak / PS3Key Compatibility List in the PS3 Hacks Forum for those who already received theirs to contribute their results.

Videos: PS JailBreak DynaModz PlayStation 3 Testing and Review

300°
226w ago - Previously we shared Spanish, French, and English PS JailBreak PS3 Reviews, and today we have a few videos from Dutch site DynaModz (linked above) testing the PSJailBreak USB modchip on their PlayStation 3 console.

Below are the videos and their feedback on the new PS JailBreak PS3 modchip, to quote roughly translated:

"The sample has arrived in a beautiful gift box with a USB stick, unfortunately no manual (they will be forgotten).

The features we are most striking and important are this product:

•The PS JailBreak works with every PlayStation 3 model on the market (FAT or SLIM).
• Backups of games, both on the internal HDD and external HDD made and loaded.
• Works with all existing PS3 games.
• Supports homebrew.
• Supports the PlayStation 3 in all regions (USA, JAP, PAL and KOREA).
• Upgradeable via PC and support for any more options.

Importantly, to our knowledge the PS Jailbreak only works on a PlayStation 3 with firmware 3.41. We do not know if the PS are Jailbreak will work after a firmware update for the PlayStation 3.

REQUIREMENTS:

• PlayStation 3 with firmware 3.41 installed (this goes for the sample we received)....

PS JailBreak Warns Buyers Not to Update Past 3.41 PS3 Firmware

850°
226w ago - A few days back the PS JailBreak folks warned buyers about less expensive clone PS3 modchips, including the x3JailBreak and the PS3Key USB modchip, and today they sent out a wave of warning e-mails to those who pre-ordered the device not to update their PS3 Firmware beyond version 3.41 until it is confirmed safe to do so.

TQCast.com (linked above) confirms receiving one of these such e-mails, and reports it as containing the following notice, to quote:

"Just a friendly update email and some advice for you over the coming days and weeks.

While PS Jailbreak team have told us it should be possible to support future firmware versions on the PS3, it's is not guaranteed, they will need to access any newer firmwares than 3.41 and if needed release an update for the PS Jailbreak to support the newer firmwares.

So we wanted to give you all some advice that if a system update is released for the PS3 in the coming days or before you receive your PS Jailbreak which blocks system...

Rumor: x3JailBreak PS JailBreak Clone Fake, PS3Key Mod Arrives

1200°
226w ago - Yesterday we reported on news of the first x3JailBreak PS JailBreak PS3 USB ModChip clone, and today it is being labeled as a possible fake with a second clone dubbed the PS3Key Mod surfacing.

Similar to the x3JailBreak site, the Dutch Web site [Register or Login to view links] lacks specific details on the alleged clone, so only time will tell if it is legitimate or not.

They do state, however, to quote: "Good news everyone! Our mad scientist has confirmed that getting into the console is as simple as pretending to be a USB hub! It doesn't look like this is going to take any more than a few weeks!"

According to Nyleveia.com (linked above), x3JailBreak is nothing more than the internals of a generic or branded-clone USB flash drive when compared to PS JailBreak which they say likely utilizes an Alcor AU6984 flash storage controller.

To quote: "Both devices follow a similar layout with a bank of SMT's leading to a crystal oscillator then a flash controller and lastly the SMD (Activity light). On the lower device, the flash memory itself is located on the underside of the PCB, as the many vias present in the PCB around the flash controller indicate.

PSJailBreak Reverse-Engineering Details Begin to Surface

850°
226w ago - Earlier today we reported that the PSJailBreak PS3 modchip is easily dumped and that PSJailBreak clones are already on the way, and now some PlayStation 3 developers are working on reverse-engineering the costly USB device in hopes to make a less expensive or free scene alternative available soon.

Tsujin, knightsolidus and bushing have made brief attempts at determining the PSJailBreak IC chip and pin-out, while Neme6 of Logic-Sunrise (linked above) has also shared his findings thus far.

More pictures are available HERE for those curious, and to quote, roughly translated on the linked pics:

"Many teams are studying the JSP to try to clone a low cost and how it works. From the photos released, I tried to determine the electronic design of PSJ.

Here is the result of my work and my observations. Feel free to post if can lighten the shadows that remain.

First ICP is probably the type PIC18F declination 4455, 4550,...
