255w ago - Square-Enix has revealed the first image of the limited edition Final Fantasy VII PS3.
Pictured below, you'll see the Final Fantasy VII style PS3. Dubbed "Cloud Black," this PS3 will come individually numbered and packaged with a Blu-ray version of Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children Complete.
Of course, the real appeal of getting Advent Children Complete on Blu-ray is the Final Fantasy XIII demo. Oddly enough, Advent Children will have the option of English voices, but it'll lack the option for English subtitles if watching in Japanese.
Also, the Final Fantasy XIII demo will not feature English subtitles or voice work. Too bad.
Complete package details:
- "Cloud Black" HDD 160GB PS3
- Final Fantasy XIII Trail Version Set (FFXIII demo)
- Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children Complete Blu-ray disc
The Cloud Black PS3 will come with a 160GB HDD and release on April 16th for 49,980 yen ($550 give or take a bit). No word on an oversea release, though.
256w ago - Well known gaming industry analyst Michael Pachter believes that Sony will drop the price of the PlayStation 3 to $299 this April.
Pacther also indicated that Microsoft may further lower its price on the XBox 360.
To quote: Pachter, however, believes the $399 price point will finally come down to $299 in just a few months. Microsoft is likely to drop its price on the 360 as well.
"Once the PS3 is at a more affordable price point (we expect a cut to $299 in April), we think that sales of that device will once again begin to grow. We expect another cut in price for the Xbox 360, with the feature-laden Pro model likely to come down in price to $249 at or before this year's E3 show in June.
We expect Nintendo to maintain Wii pricing at $249 until the company sees signs that demand is slowing, which means a price cut may not happen until late in the year, if at all," Pachter said.
297w ago - Update: Sony has officially confirmed that the new PlayStation Store interface will also be coming to North America in mid-April.
To quote: Customers will be able to access, browse, shop and download content as usual prior to the store's re-opening. However, no additional downloadable content will be posted prior to then, including this Thursday, April 3rd, and next Thursday, April 10th.
Regularly scheduled content updates will resume with the Store's re-opening, at which time additional games and game-related items will be added, including the downloadable version of the highly-anticipated exclusive PS3 title Gran Turismo 5 Prologue.
Sony has released 3 sample images of the new design for the PlayStation store and said that "Content will be suspended for two weeks while the improvements are carried out but users can look forward to a special update in mid-April."
Sony has also reportedly told the media that the PlayStation Store face lift on PS3 will no longer use the PS3 Web browser, and will require new firmware upgrade version 2.30. The facelift is said to be much faster and cache all images correctly.
301w ago - The PlayStation Store will be receiving a makeover this April, according to SCEA's director of product development John Hight.
Hight notes that numerous changes will be made to the client interface of the store, based largely on customer feedback. Expect a more clean-cut, simplified look.
We give them a lot of feedback based on how our customers are reacting to things, and I think you will see a pretty big change in the PlayStation Network in the early part of April, where we roll out some new interface stuff largely based on customer feedback.
Simplification, cutting down on the number of mouse clicks, making it easier to find stuff that you want to find... that's kind of an outgrowth of us having more content now, so we have to make sure that you can get at it easily.
On a side note, Hight mentioned that we could see Japanese PSOne titles on PSN in the near future, similar to how Nintendo offers foreign games through its Wii Virtual Console service.
312w ago - According to the source linked above, Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto IV will be released April 25 in the UK, rather than in March as initially expected.
This date would stay true to Take Two's recently released financial statement, which revealed that the title would be released in the second quarter of fiscal 2008.
Assuming this rumor is legitimate, then we can expect GTA IV to be released in the US during the week of April 25 as well if history is any indication. Previous GTA titles reached the US less than a few days before releasing in Europe.
