MAG PS3 Q&A with Zipper Interactive European Product Manager

300°
236w ago - SCEE's European Product Manager Chris Weatherhead has posted up a MAG PS3 Q&A today on the PlayStation Blog, as follows:

Answers have been provided by the Game's Producer Alan Van Slyke, the Designer Jason Olander, Designer and the Senior Community Manager Jeremy Dunham.

1) How the whole MAG idea was created? It's the final product what you had in mind from the beginning or it has changed?

Alan Van Slyke, Producer: The initial idea for MAG was "battles on a scale never seen before." To have huge air insertions, mortar barrages, and platoons of players fighting for common goals. In this sense the core of the project never changed. Every feature in the game had to pass our filter of, "does this contribute to the sense of scale", and add to the core pillars of what MAG is.

The final product is very much what we had in mind from the beginning. We did strip away a little complexity to provide an experience that's approachable even to casual gamers, but were keenly aware that we needed to retain certain designs (command structure, squad cohesion, squad communication) in place to ensure that a game of this scale wouldn't devolve into complete chaos.

2) Which one was the biggest difficulty you had to face while developing...

242w ago - Today Zipper Interactive Sr. Community Manager Jeremy Dunham has officially announced that SOCOM 4 is coming for PS3 and 51N15T3R shared the debut video below!

Additionally, in the comments section he stated the following: "We stick with what we're good at and like to make. That doesn't mean that we'd never consider something else... except Mahjong – a Zipper Mahjong game just isn't in the cards."

To quote: I wanted to drop in and deliver some truly exciting news - on behalf of everyone here at [Register or Login to view links], I'm pleased to announce that SOCOM 4 is indeed in development and is slated for release exclusively on PlayStation 3 this fall.

Of course, as with any new announcement, what you really want to know are the details: Who's in your squad? Where have they been deployed? What kind of threat are they up against?

Though we'll be revealing the answers to all these questions and plenty more throughout 2010, we don't want to leave you completely in the dark, so what we will tell you is that a militant revolutionary has unexpectedly seized control in an important South Asian country.

As the Ops Com, your mission is to command an elite five-man squad charged with stopping his aggressive agenda before it's too...

Zipper Interactive Compares MAG PS3 Beta to the Final Game

100°
247w ago - Zipper Interactive's Sr. Community Manager Jeremy Dunham has shared a detailed comparison today between the MAG PS3 Beta and the final game code.

To quote: January 26 is just one day away with MAG arriving on store shelves worldwide tomorrow and throughout the week.

Before you delve into your first "official" match between Raven, S.V.E.R., and Valor, though, we wanted to make sure that you knew two things:

What the differences between the Beta 5.0 and the final version are
How we implemented your feedback from the beta to affect the retail game on day one

First, let's talk about the differences between the final game and the beta you tried out a few weeks ago - the most obvious of which is the mode and map count. Whereas before, the Beta version of MAG only offered six maps and two modes, the retail version has a full five modes with 15 maps to play.

The final game also includes a handy offline training mode, unique armors, new cinematics, art galleries, trophies, and the always-popular Veteran Mode that lets you start all over again with a permanent XP bonus and the ability to switch your faction after hitting the level cap. Of course, graphical and audio improvements are in there too.

But our "out of the box" distinctions aren't...
