LittleBigPlanet Musician Defends Controversial Song to MTV

50°
313w ago - The musician behind the song that caused the highly anticipated PlayStation 3 game "Little Big Planet" to get recalled just days before its release has defended his song in a statement issued to MTV Multiplayer.

Perhaps even more significantly, singer Toumani Diabate has explained what the song is about and why its inclusion of verses from the Qur'an is his "way to attract and inspire people toward Islam."

Multiplayer received the statement late yesterday, following conversations with two Muslim experts who helped illuminate the reasons why Diabate's song might trouble some Muslims and just how similar – or different – this situation is from the publication of the Danish cartoons that inspired deadly riots across the world.

They note the complication that there is no explicit rule in Islam prohibiting a song like Diabate's.

Diabate's song first was initially flagged on the official PS3 message boards by a Muslim gamer who found the inclusion of two verses from the Qur'an in the song to be troubling and offensive. The gamer asked Sony to remove the song from the game, which Sony has agreed to do, delaying the game several days in the process. That request puzzled some gamers who did not understand why the inclusion of the verses would be a problem. Was...

Listen to the 'Controversial' LittleBigPlanet Song: Tapha Niang

50°
313w ago - Like many, we're wondering if Sony's response to the song "Tapha Niang," included in the LittleBigPlanet soundtrack is a little harsh.

Toumani Diabaté and the Symmetric Orchestra is known for combining the traditional music of Mali with other internation styles, like jazz, blues and flamenco.

His MySpace page has the entire song available to listen to, and Amazon.com has a DRM-free version available to purchase. It's surprising that a song, which has been available for over two years, is only now receiving controversial attention for its inclusion in Sony's blockbuster PS3 game.

Perhaps if Sony didn't delay this game, this matter wouldn't have exploded to such incredible proportions?

After all, the international sound would be appropraite for a game like LittleBigPlanet, which takes players on a virtual journey around the globe. Diabaté also won a Grammy award in 2006, the same year "Tapha Niang" was released.

319w ago - It only took a year... to quote hmxsean via RockBand Forums:

Hi Everyone: PS3 ROCK BAND DISC EXPORT TITLE UPDATE

First and foremost, we're happy to announce that PS3 users will soon be able to export RB1 songs to their system in advance of the launch of RB2! A PS3 patch will be coming out this Thursday, September 11th, which will allow RB1 song export, in addition to updating DLC to our RB2 standards (so you can continue to rock the newer content in RB1 if you so choose!)

This title update will also patch for the use of the Guitar Hero III Les Paul PS3 Controller with RB1 on the PS3. We're excited to release this, as controller compatibility is something we've been working towards for a long time.

This Rock Band 1 title update is set to come out next Thursday. As with the Xbox 360 Title Update, you will have to update Rock Band in order to play any DLC that is released after Thursday.

PAX PACK
This leads us to the PAX pack which was released yesterday on the PlayStation Store. Due to technical issues with the submission of "Livin on the Corner of Dude and Catastrophe" by MC Frontalot, users who downloaded that track or the entire pack found that they were not able to play this content in the game. Furthermore, downloading the pack meant that all 3 songs...
