67w ago - FuturLab Managing Director James Marsden has revealed their new space shooter Velocity today alongside details of getting it free at launch via PlayStation Plus.
To quote: I'm here today to show you our awesome new teleportation shoot 'em-up that is packed with innovative features - and it's a game that YOU named!
We had hundreds of entries, which we were very grateful for, and settled on 'VELOCITY', as it described the concept and gameplay very well - and is a cool word!
Here at FuturLab we don't think it is good enough to churn out cloned games. We wanted to do justice to the nostalgia of early games in the shoot 'em-up genre, so that people can pick up Velocity and feel right at home, but also feel the excitement of playing something completely new!
After many months prototyping, we knew we had something special with Velocity - the teleporting mechanics had never been done before - so we wanted a big sound to complement the gameplay experience.
We are therefore incredibly excited that Joris de Man, the award winning composer that wrote and produced the music for Killzone 2 & 3, has co-written and co-produced the music for Velocity!
So it sounds incredible and is a genuine, high quality homage to the classic...

96w ago - Today PlayStation 3 developer SnakePlissken--PMW has announced news of an FPS First Person Shooter PS3 Homebrew Engine for Custom Firmware in development along with some details on the first game.
To quote: My Name is Snake Plissken. I am Chief Commander of a group known as PMW NATION. I'm currently directing our groups development branch into bringing to the PS3 one great first person gaming experience by means of homebrew on PlayStation Custom Firmware.
We hope to release onto the world a whole new concept in homebrew development on the PS3 by developing an "homebrew engine" that future developers can use to make homebrew with to be used on the PS3.
With the engine one could make your own First person shooter homebrew. It has been proven that other forms of homebrew can be made for and used with the engine as well. Not only that but This would offer a interface for developing homebrew outside of PSL1GHT for all types of CFWs (as we will port the engine to work with multiple types of CFW's)
Developers would need a way to install a .pkg onto there PS3s. They would then make homebrew in form of "recourse data" with the Gaming engine’s tool chain. that is then coupled and distributed with the engine.
A user can download the engine.pkg and insert it on...

98w ago - President and Executive Producer Dylan Cuthbert at Q-Games Limited has announced today that the PixelJunk Shooter 2 patch is now live on PSN.
To quote: Hey everyone! I am happy to announce a patch for PixelJunk Shooter 2. We've changed a few things. Read on for the full list:
• There was a bug where some enemies would spawn right on top of you giving you that awesome "insta-death" you really don't want in a game... well, we fixed it!
• The online connectivity has been tuned to allow you to hook up with other players much more easily. Try it out!
• If you get matched against a higher ranking player you get a nice large cash bonus (Q space bucks of course) if you win! This gives you a big incentive to challenge yourself more when you get matched up against someone who seems better than you. Hint: stay calm and use strategy, you can definitely take them!
• We added an option to the pause screen that lets you take a break in the middle of a stage and come back later to finish it off. So when your mom calls you to the dinner table just choose that option, go eat your dinner *and* be nice to the environment by switching off your PS3!
• Even if you kill a few survivors and get a game over screen you can "continue" - your score...
