PlayStation Mobile: Sixty Second Shooter Deluxe Lands on PSN Today

50°
98w ago - Happion Laboratories Chief Scientist Jamie Fristrom has announced that PlayStation Mobile title Sixty Second Shooter Deluxe lands on PSN today!

To quote: Many years ago I quit a pretty sweet job as creative director on Activision's Spider-Man series in the middle of development on Spider-Man 3.

Why did I do such a crazy thing? I'd love to say it was because of the screenplay, but no - a big part of the reason was that even though I had the highfalutin' title "creative director" I didn't feel like it was my game.

Somehow, not enough of my own creative input and ideas were making it into the thing, and I thought that at a small company I could start making games I could call my own again.

And I've been getting my butt kicked ever since! Every mistake you can make as an indie developer... I've probably made it twice. We did okay with Schizoid, which made it into the PAX 10, but didn't bring in enough money to make the next game, and although we managed to hold on for a while longer, doing some contract work here and there, we eventually had to call it quits.

My partner went and got a real job and I was about to as well, but then I heard that the Chrome web browser had...

Fuse Interview: Ted Price Introduces Insomniac's Shape-Shifting Shooter

50°
99w ago - Sony Blog Manager Fred Dutton has shared an interview with Ted Price today who officially introduced Insomniac's shape-shifting new shooter Fuse!

To quote: In terms of things that constitute A BIG DEAL, the arrival of a new [Register or Login to view links] game is right up there.

The California-based studio boasts one of the sturdiest resumes in gaming, with past works including Spyro, Ratchet & Clank and Resistance, and its latest effort - spectacular third-person shooter Fuse - looks every bit as distinctive.

The set-up is simple - you play as one member of a four-strong squad of special agents, each armed with a high-concept weapon powered by a mysterious alien substance called Fuse.

There's beefy Dalton who wields a weapon that allows him to generate a force field. Naya's assault rifle generates a mini-vortex which sucks in enemies. Izzy wields a shatter gun that freezes foes on the spot, allowing colleagues to step in and vaporize them. Finally, Jacob sports a crossbow that fires molten projectiles capable of turning the opposition into a pile of ash.

It might sound like a rather familiar set-up on paper, but in action it's an extraordinary sight to behold, with each outrageous weapon interacting with each other to create uniquely...

Video: Uproar: Free-to-Play Shooter Hits PlayStation Home Today

50°
100w ago - Lockwood Publishing Director Sophia Coney has announced that the free-to-play shooter dubbed Uproar is hitting PlayStation Home today alongside a video trailer below.

To quote: Uproar is a frantic and fun third-person shooter exclusive to PlayStation Home. Why play cover to cover when you can free roam?

Uproar is the first avatar based free-roaming third-person shooter in PlayStation Home and it pulls out all the stops to bring you an experience unlike anything seen on the platform before.

The game is extremely easy to jump into and play, the controls and gameplay will be instantly familiar to anyone who has played a third-person shooter before, however there are some very interesting tweaks to spice up the gameplay and keep it all feeling fresh.

We think it'll give you and your friends countless hours of fun battling it out within the Uproar Arena.

Pick your side. You can choose to fight on the side of either of our two gangs; the Outlaws or the Swyfts, as they battle for respect within the Uproar Arena.

Each gang has its own unique set of clothing available within the inventory screen (all of which is wearable outside of the game), as well as a set of gang booths in the Uproar Lobby to hang out in with your fellow gang members and chat before...

24 Caret Games on Retro / Grade: How to Play a Reverse Shooter

100°
110w ago - 24 Caret Games Co-founder Matt Gilgenbach has outlined today how to play a reverse shooter as part of some new Retro / Grade tips below.

To quote: We recently announced that Retro/Grade, the first game played entirely in reverse, would be releasing exclusively on PSN on August 21st.

Understanding and developing a game that is played in reverse is tough, so I want talk about how it all works.

Firstly, how did we design a game played in reverse? We worked backwards of course! We started with the idea that it'd be cool to play a game where time is flowing backwards, but we didn't have any ideas on how to pull that off. We did a lot of brainstorming - time reversing is a hard concept to wrap your head around.

We figured for gameplay purposes, undoing your actions would be the best fit for that theme. When undoing, you have to match both the timing and the position of previous actions.

When matching timing, music is the best way to achieve that, so we thought rhythm gameplay would be the best mechanic to build the game around. We figured a 2D game where your motion is constrained to a few discrete lanes would make it easier to match the positions.

A 2D spaceship shooter seemed like a great fit for the theme, so we tried to incorporate elements from...

Cubicle Shooter City v0.1 PS3 Homebrew Game is Released

200°
119w ago - Today PlayStation 3 homebrew developer ThatOtherDev has released Cubicle Shooter City v0.1, a top down dual stick shooter PS3 homebrew game.

Download: [Register or Login to view links] / [Register or Login to view links] (Mirror)

From his blog, to quote: Recycle today for a better tomorrow! Cubicle Shooter City is a top down dual stick shooter that uses the city generator I made for Hero City 2 and the character models from Cubicle Shooter.

To be honest I'm not very happy with how it turned out. It performs poorly and I think it looks ugly. Does anyone want me to continue working on this? What would you like to see added or changed? There where a few things I was planning to do but now I think I'm most likely going to just abandon this.

In b4 someone gives me sht for making a new game and abandoning it to move on to other things instead of sinking 20 years of my life into perfecting its mediocrity.

I will definitely be working on UFO Racer this month, I'm also going to be posting source code soon and for any of you with a homebrew enabled Wii I'll be making Wii ports...
