Sony Bans PSJailBreak PS3 ModChip Sales in Europe

207w ago - According to Gamersmint.com (linked above), Sony has now succeeded in banning sales of the PSJailBreak PS3 modchip USB device in Europe.

This news comes just days after document leaks and UKIE support for Sony's swift legal action were announced.

To quote: "Sony has finally succeeded in banning the selling of the modchip in Europe.

After releasing a security firmware update which made the PSJailbreak useless, Sony has gone 1up now and the Japanese manufacturer has cut the grass from under the feet of prospective hackers through an order which makes it illegal to sell the modchip and all its clones in Europe.

This news has been confirmed by [Register or Login to view links], one of the leading modchip online retailers who have taken off their stock of the PSJailbreak from their website following this recent order.

Sony: The PS3 Shortage is Over, Sales Up 85 Percent Last Year

220w ago - Today IGN (linked above) reports that Sony has confirmed the PS3 shortage is officially over, with sales up 85 percent over last year.

According to [Register or Login to view links], the PlayStation 3 console moved 305k units in June, up from 165k units in June of 2009.

Additionally, Sony noted that there are nearly 13 million PS3 units in living rooms across the U.S. and that hardware unit sales are up 85 percent since June 2009 and 42 percent since January 2010.

To quote: "PS3 inventory issues have been resolved and June 2010 marks the 11th consecutive month of year on year growth for the platform," the company said in a statement.

"Video games are fueling new innovation for the entire consumer entertainment category and today's numbers are a testament to the big impact we'll play this holiday," said Patrick Seybold, Sr. Director of Corporate Communications at SCEA.
 

Sony Details PS3 and PSP Hardware Sales Data and Expectations

229w ago - Sony revealed today that the PS3 has reached the expected sales of 13 million units for the 2009 fiscal year as part of their latest fiscal report.

As previously reported, with new and more efficient PS3 consoles shipping Sony has moved one step closer to hardware profitability.

The total of PlayStation 3 units sold so far (as of March, 2010) worldwide is now at 35.7 million since the system launched in late 2006.

Furthermore, Sony is forecasting another 15 million units sold by the end of the next fiscal year. In other words, they are expecting the PlayStation 3 to reach 50.7 million units in lifetime sales by March 31, 2010.

Video: New Sony PS3 Ad Reveals US Sales Numbers and More!

235w ago - Today Sony has released a new "It Only Does Everything" advertisement for the PS3 entertainment system that reveals US sales numbers to the tune of 14 million users in the United States!

It also shows some awesome in-game footage of both old and upcoming PlayStation 3 games, however, Kevin Butler does not appear in the video unfortunately.
