Sony Announces Two New PSN Sales on PlayStation Store Today

71w ago - Sony PlayStation Store and Plus Content Manager Chris Howe announced two new PSN sales today on PlayStation Store with details below, as follows:

War, what it is good for? Absolutely nothing. Except maybe within games, where it's undeniably a lot safer as only pixels and polygons are being hurt. With that, we present to you our Warzone Sale, featuring great titles like Ace Combat and Ghost Recon Future Soldier, with additional PS Plus discounts doing the rounds on some titles.

Since one sale is never enough, we also present to you a sale on various Guitar Hero and DJ Hero packs, with artists packs such as Queen, Disturbed, Muse and more available for up to 55% off. Music to your ears, I'm sure.

Both sales run from today, 18th September (when PlayStation Store refreshes) until 2nd October.

Sony Patent Uncovered That May Suppress Second-Hand Game Sales

108w ago - Previously it was rumored that Sony was planning to combat PS3 piracy with Blu-ray disc serial keys, and today gofreak uncovered a [Register or Login to view links] ([Register or Login to view links]) which may suppress second-hand game sales on PS4 as well.

Below are the details, to quote: So I believe this is interesting in light of a prior rumor about Sony limiting second hand game sales on PS4. Sony has been working on new technology for limiting used game sales, and has applied for a patent. The patent was filed 09/12/2012 by SCEJ.

Perhaps this work is where the rumor came from. Or perhaps it independently corroborates the rumor. Anyway, here's some of the relevant detail:

"According to the present embodiment, realized is the electronic content processing system that reliably restricts the use of electronic content dealt in the second-hand markets. As a result, the dealing of electronic content in the second-hand markets is suppressed, which in turn supports the redistribution of part of proceeds from sales of the electronic content to the developers. LG Wants Sony PlayStation 3 Sales Banned in the US

207w ago - Korean company LG wants Sony's PlayStation 3 and Bravia televisions banned in the US for what it claims are patent infringements relating to Blu-ray playback.

To quote from EuroGamer: "The [Register or Login to view links] contacted Eurogamer to reveal [Register or Login to view links] filed with the US International Trade Commission in Washington relating to the complaint. mThe ITC has the power to block imports of products that violate US patents.

LG claims Sony is infringing four of its patents in a complaint that broadly relates to "certain electronic devices having a Blu-Ray Disc player and components thereof", but the PlayStation 3 (Model No. CECH-2501A) is the only Sony product to be specifically named in the main document of the complaint.

A [Register or Login to view links] reports suggests LG's claims are revenge for cases brought against it by Sony in December. Sony claims the Seoul-based company is infringing seven of its patents relating to LG phones. Sony has also filed a civil lawsuit against LG Blu-ray players.
