210w ago - Today some HOT news in the XBox 360 scene has surfaced... ikari has released FreeBOOT v0.2 which allows users to run unsigned XEX files on their XBox 360 consoles... this essentially renders the dev boxes useless, so keep an eye on eBay for price drops soon.
From the ReadMe file: FreeBOOT is a rebooter for the Microsoft Xbox 360. This version of freeBOOT allows you to reboot into kernel 2.0.8955 on all Xenon, Zephyr, Falcon, and Jasper consoles with 16MB flashes, which are vulnerable to the JTAG hack.
Support for Opus and Jasper consoles with larger flashes will follow soon. As freeBOOT needs a second flash memory to store kernel 2.0.8955 and associated data, either a Cygnos360 or an xD card mod is required at the moment.
• Harddisk installation and save game/profile issues have been fixed
• Updated to kernel 8955
• Additional support for Zephyr and Jasper consoles with 16MB flashes
• Support for xD card mod and Cygnos360 V1 added
• Harddisk authentication disabled. The Xbox 360 will now accept any SATA...
213w ago - Today daveexfusion of Team Typhoon has released a proof-of-concept video demonstrating Sony's PSPgo fully hacked, running HEN (Homebrew Enabler) 6.10 Custom Firmware.
The PicoDrive Genesis emulator is shown running Sonic through the PSPgo's savestate-like Resume Game feature, which can continue play sessions even after a full shutdown.
To quote from the video's caption: "This video is for bragging rights ONLY (since it's very cool nowadays) and shows our Proof of Concept 6.10 Custom Firmware running on the PSPgo.
This will never be released to the general public or anyone else at all whether you are a dev or not, this is Team Typhoon internal material, we have no reason whatsoever to waste a perfectly good exploit.
So don't ask for release dates. We don't care about your complaining, whining and everything remotely related and it's your own damn fault since you brought this on yourselves.
Better version of the video showcasing more homebrew coming next week. Thanks go to Sony for this awesome piece of new hardware, finally a decent hardware revision. Also thanks to all historied PSP Homebrew developers for paving the way for us to be able to do this."
221w ago - Today SKFU has posted a brief guide on three way to run your own code on Sony's PS3 console, as follows:
The easiest way to run your own code on the PlayStation 3 is through Linux which you can install as alternative OS. Several restrictions regarding the RSX, but it seems to become better regarding 3D acceleration since the new MESA 3D GL was released with CELL support.
A few days ago I reported, that the developers of demonhades.org found out, that BD-Java still works if you correctly burn it on a Blu-Ray disc. With the FreePlay's minimal BD-Java SDK it's quite ok to develop Java for PS3.
Since FW 2.0 till FW 3.0 there was the so called Informationboard. This is a simple .swf file on the HDD and can be replaced with knightsolidus' HDD decryption method. As the informationboard.swf does not run in a sandbox there's a lot possible but sadly it was removed in the actual FW 3.0.
226w ago - According to trade publication MCVUK (linked above), supplies of the PS3 are running dry in the UK channels.
This adds merit to rumors that the PS3 is going to get a price cut and also that the emergence of the PS3 Slim is imminent.
To quote: Rumors and speculation have been rife for many weeks now, but MCV can reveal that Sony is clearing PS3 hardware stock from the channel ahead of what is expected to be a new price point introduced from early September.
A press conference at the Gamescom event in Cologne next Tuesday (August 18th) is expected to provide details of the price cut - and possibly the launch of the rumoured redesigned PS3 Slim.
But ahead of that, UK retail has already begun to comment on the current lack of hardware stock on the market.
Two of the UK's leading national retailers have confirmed to MCV that they have been told not to expect any further supplies of the console until later this month or early September.
