To quote via DualShockers (linked above): "E3 is approaching fast, and according to industry insider Ahsan Rasheed, that is normally quite accurate with the information his sources give him, Sony has a lot of interesting things in the pipeline, as he said today on Twitter.

Be excited: 1. Local PS2 / PS1 support on PS4 w/ native 1080p rendering for select titles.

Number 1 I've known for a good minute, but software is still buggy and not every game works. Please be excited.

Ahsan continued by giving more details on what's going on behind the scenes with the Project Morpheus virtual reality headset:

Devs I'm talking to really want to try Morpheus. Community feels like it is the best way to introduce VR to mainstream consumers.

Oh and Sony has opened the floodgates asking for open criticism from third parties on Morpheus and what they want to see in a final product.

If you...

PS4 System Software / Firmware Update 1.60 Incoming, Details

400°
44w ago - Following up on their previous PlayStation 4 update, although not officially announced by Sony (yet) today reports suggest that PS4 System Software / Firmware Update 1.60 is incoming with rumored changes detailed below.

From The Z, to quote: Even though Sony did not officially announced the PS4 Firmware 1.60 yet, there are already some rumours about an upcoming PS4 Firmware Update 1.60.

It is known that currently just a few Headsets are working with the PlayStation 4 and that some official PS4-certified Headsets are being released pretty soon. But what has the new Firmware to do with those Headsets? Well, I will explain this in the following part...

If we take a closer look at the Gold Wireless Stereo Headset (as seen on [Register or Login to view links] and [Register or Login to view links]) by Sony Computer Entertainment, then we can see in the description of it, that we need a PlayStation...

Sony Goes Hands-on with Thief for PS4 / PlayStation 4, Details

50°
44w ago - Sony Social Media Specialist Ryan Clements went hands-on with Thief for PS4 / PlayStation 4 with details below, as follows:

Garrett snuffs out a candle flame as he stalks through the closed jewelry shop, inches away from a snoring guard. While the jeweler toils in his basement and his wife basks by the fire, Garrett slips silently from room to room, rifling through drawers and pocketing valuable trinkets.

Thief on PS4 is at its best when Garrett is left to his own devices, enabling players to vault through windows and pry open cabinets as the master thief himself.

This reboot of the classic stealth series takes a more open-world approach as players prowl the alleys and rooftops of The City, a shadowy nexus bathed in perpetual twilight. The City itself is a visual delight, steeped in long shadows and wavering fires that turn every nook and cranny into a sneaky play space.

And Thief's thieving feels tactile. Coins, jewelry, and other collectibles litter cabinets and line hidden vaults, providing ample motivation for completionists to search every corner and crevice. The more loot you collect, the more resources you'll be able to buy.

One resource worthy of investment is Garrett's trusty bow, which supports many arrow types - some for extinguishing flames, others...

Video: PS4 AMD Jaguar CPU 1.8Ghz Rumors, Motherboard Components

50°
53w ago - Below is a video derived from [Register or Login to view links] PDF file (via PC Watch) with details from [Register or Login to view links] on the rumored PS4 AMD Jaguar CPU 1.8Ghz and two disabled GPU compute units alongside the PlayStation 4 motherboard components explained.

To quote: PlayStation 4 - AMD Jaguar CPU 1.8GHZ - PS4 Rumor and Two Disabled Compute Units

The PlayStation 4's AMD Jaguar CPU clock speed has yet to be officially confirmed by Sony, but there is recent evidence and rumors to suggest that the CPU is running at 1.8GHZ. Previously, based on comments from various developers and speculation we'd guessed the PS4′s CPU was running at 1.6GHZ. Remember that the AMD Jaguar is designed to run up to 2GHZ, so the 1.8GHZ is right in the Jaguar's range.

Microsoft had up clocked the Xbox One's CPU to 1.75GHZ, and so we assumed the X1 had the CPU advantage - but if these recent rumors prove to be correct, the PS4 will have the X1 beat. Lower clock frequencies require less power and output less heat, and due to the APU of the PS4 already being fairly large, we weren't sure if Sony...

To quote from DualShockers.com (linked above): "Sony Computer Entertainment Japan and Asia Senior Vice president and Director of Business Unit 1 Masayasu Ito isn't as well known as Shuhei Yoshida between PlayStation fans, but given his technical role he's the best person to ask about some of the most technical aspects of the upcoming PS4.

Today he gaver some extremely interesting information about the console as part of an interview on the Japanese tech site [Register or Login to view links].

Here's a summary of the most relevant points:

  • While being always online is not necessary, a network connection is important to fully enjoy the features of the PS4.
  • The PS4 will initially act as a stand-alone web server for the PlayStation App. In the future there's the possibility of this to be expanded through the cloud, with the PS4 and PlayStation App interacting through the cloud, allowing cooperative...
