14w ago - According to CVG (linked above), Sony is preparing to reveal the final piece of its PlayStation 4 hardware strategy at TGS (Tokyo Game Show) 2013 by showcasing a PlayStation-branded virtual reality headset for the upcoming PS4 console.
To quote: "It originally intended to reveal the headset at Gamescom but plans fell through at the eleventh hour. The company is currently weighing up whether the PS4 device should be pitched as a key differentiator for the console or a non-essential add-on.
The matter has been slightly complicated, but not derailed, by the growing industry support for Oculus Rift. Sony's device will be a categorical rival to Oculus, and for months there have been rumours suggesting the two companies are seeking a partnership.
A games developer familiar with Sony's plans, who wished to remain anonymous, told CVG that Evolution Studios is currently working with the device to simulate a cockpit view on its PS4 title Drive Club.
Another developer claimed the virtual reality headset resembles the 3D headset that Sony first revealed in January 2011. The head-mounted display will be available separately, like with the new PlayStation Eye, in order to keep the baseline PS4 price as low as possible.
In August, Sony Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida suggested...
16w ago - Atomicom Managing Director Gary Nichols officially revealed Switch Galaxy Ultra for both PS4 and PlayStation Vita platforms at Gamescom 2013 today.
To quote: It only seems like just a couple of weeks ago that we were writing our guest post about the release of Switch Galaxy for PlayStation Mobile, and already we're back with our announcement for Switch Galaxy Ultra.
The reviews we saw for Switch Galaxy blew us away, with many 9/10 scores and, of course, the awesome player feedback we received about the game really helped us get energized to improve on our PSM title as we knew there was a lot more we could do with it.
Due to the amazing reviews the Switch Galaxy received, we were invited to meet with the team at SCEE to discuss what our future plans were. As we still had lots of ideas (and, more importantly, the energy) for Switch Galaxy, we wanted to carry on working on it and try to get a native release out ourselves on PS Vita. Luckily they offered to support us in that.
So, we set about producing some new assets, redesigning elements such as the game HUD and front-end, adding new features and improving on some of the areas we felt could be made better.
16w ago - Sony Producer Daniel Brooke has made available a new PS4 trailer from Gamescom 2013 showcasing Knack on PlayStation 4 for fans below!
To quote: Hi, we're pleased to present the new Gamescom trailer for Knack. It's action-packed and reveals some exciting hints to the game's story, as well as including some new characters you won't have seen before - make sure you give it a look!
The hard-working team at Japan Studio has been creating a new demo specifically for Gamescom, as this will be the first time Knack has been playable at a consumer show. If you're going to Gamescom this week, please head over to the SCEE booth and check the game out!
The new demo includes platforming gameplay, as well as a level extract which has Knack absorbing wooden parts (and catching fire) as seen in the trailer. This gives you only a few minutes before your new parts burn away, so you have to keep battling and moving quickly to grab new parts before you shrink down in size.
Also, Mark Cerny will be at Gamescom talking about a great, newly-introduced additional feature to Knack. Japan Studio wanted to add something extra to the experience, and are currently working on a two-player "drop-in" co-op mode!
16w ago - Sony Associate Producer Dais Kawaguchi posted up a new Rain video trailer today alongside revealing the official release date and PS3 pre-order bonuses below.
To quote: Today, we're very excited to announce that rain will launch on October 1st on PlayStation Store for $14.99 in North America! To celebrate the news, we're sharing the second developer diary from the team at Japan Studio and PlayStation C.A.M.P., so watch and enjoy.
From the early stages of the production cycle, we've always felt that music is one of the most important elements in creating the world of rain. In this developer diary, Yugo Kanno – who handled all aspects of the composition and arrangements – explains what initially inspired him when introduced to the project, and his experiences while composing the music.
We were also extremely fortunate to work with Connie Talbot, an up-and-coming vocalist from the UK who made her debut on Britain's Got Talent back in 2007. In the interview seen in the video, Connie shares her excitement and the unique challenges faced during the recording.
We're also pleased to announce a pre-order that you can pick up now until September 30th on the PlayStation Store that will offer a few pieces...
