PSP Firmware 5.50 Update is Coming Soon

200°
278w ago - Here we go, courtesy of PlayStation Network Operations Director Eric Lempel on this Monday afternoon:

Hi everyone, the next system software update (v5.50) for PSP (PlayStation Portable) will be available soon, and I wanted to provide you all with a preview of some of the key features.

The firmware update will introduce an Information Board on the PSP system's XMB (XrossMediaBar) interface. Those of you who have a PLAYSTATION 3 (PS3) may be familiar with this feature, which displays news and updates from the world of PlayStation in a scrolling ticker in the upper right-hand corner of your TV screen.

Now you'll be able to read up-to-date information about upcoming games, new content available on PlayStation Store, and other news right on your PSP whenever you're at a wireless Internet hotspot.

In addition, we'll be adding a few more enhancements with the 5.50 update:

• Memory Stick improvements - You'll be able to create and access sub-folders on your Memory Stick PRO Duo for music, videos and photos. Separately, the available space required to download a file from PlayStation Store to your Memory Stick has been reduced significantly.

• Internet search for games directly from the XMB - You'll be able to easily...

291w ago - Sony's Director of PlayStation Network Operations Eric Lempel has announced the following today:

Hi, everyone, I wanted to give you a quick heads up that a new PSP firmware update, v5.03, will be released soon. This is a small update that improves system software stability during use of some features.

Although he didn't specify it, as expected the PSP update also patches the user mode exploit hole found in GripShift [Register or Login to view links].

That being said, do not update if you have a TA-088 v3 motherboard on your PSP-2000 Slim or if you have a PSP-3000 and wish to run homebrew code. Sony has now added a check that automatically detects the savedata as corrupt, and will refuse to display it on the list of available saves.

PSP Official Firmware v4.05 Update is Coming Soon

319w ago - As quoted from Eric Lempel from the PlayStation Blog:

"I wanted to give a quick heads up to everyone that a new PSP firmware update, v4.05, will be released soon. We know that more and more of you are listening to music on your PSP, and this update will add new visualizers for music playback, among other features. Enjoy!"

These music player visualisations sound like good fun, not too sure what he means by 'among other features' though perhaps some more PS3 PSP connectivity or access to the Playstation Store, or just the usual routine extra security/stability issues.

Hopefully the guys at M33 will be able to work their magic soon with this latest firmware update upon its release.
