263w ago - Here's a new one... rumor has it Datel, longtime developer and manufacturer of videogame enhancement products, has beat conventional PSP hackers in unlocking the PSP 3000 console.
To quote: The breakthrough was made by Datel, thanks to their newest tool battery that will put the PSP 3K into service mode. Okay, what does this exactly do? According to their post, service mode allows you to downgrade your PSP for you to do whatever you may want to do with it, basically.
So. Here's the deal. In order for you to enable the service mode on your PSP 2K and 3K models, you'll need Datel's new crypto processor based battery called the Lite Blue Tool battery.
It comes with toggle options between a service mode and normal mode, as well as a built in LED power gauge feature! Datel's Lite Blue Tool comes to your nearest store on November 28th for a mere US$ 19.99 (UK) and US$ 29.99 (NA).
266w ago - Logic-Sunrise has shared the results of their investigation into the screen issues with the latest edition PSP-3000 consoles.
They took out a microscope in order to test the difference between the screens as follows:
On PSP-3000 and newest PSP-3004, Everyone get a "bad screen" (scanline effect). But what happen on these screens ? in fact we get a microscope, and we tested differencies between old good screens, and newest bad screens.
In fact, after looking it 40X bigger, we can see all pixels. As you know, a pixel got 3 colors : blue, green and red. The biggest issue is the blue part of the pixel is not "light", but very dark, near black ... The or issue is that the blue part is horizon aligned, not vertical aligned, like old screens. It's why we have a scanline effect.
Also, we contacted SONY: No new console will be changed or screen replaced. We made a simple: gaming. It's VERY awful to play on these console, and we recommend everybody to bye old slim psp (psp-2004 for exemple) or wait for new screens on PSP 3000 and psp 3004 consoles.
266w ago - SCEA's Director of Hardware Marketing John Koller announced that they have seen significant interest in the Ratchet & Clank Size Matters PSP Entertainment Pack in North America, which includes the updated PSP-3000.
As a result, they will be streamlining their PSP hardware lineup and will no longer be offering the previously announced 4GB Memory PSP Entertainment Pack.
Many customers had received e-mails from online retailers to inform them that their orders for the 4GB Memory PSP Entertainment Pack had been cancelled.
This fueled rumors that there could be a recall of the PSP-3000 because of scanline issues with its screen. Consumers who are interested in a larger capacity memory option can purchase a 4GB PSP Memory Stick PRO Duo, which will be available this fall for $44.99 (MSRP).
267w ago - Just a few days back we reported on several users experiencing PSP-3000 Screen issues, including scanlines interlacing issues in games.
Today, Engadget has a brief official update to this concern as follows:
"Update: A Japanese Sony Computer Entertainment representative has informed us that the interlacing-like lines are just "features" of the new LCD, and currently, there are no plans to fix it with a future software update since it is in the hardware."
So there you have it, at least for now sadly. Below is a comparison picture for those who missed it in our previous news post.
268w ago - On the official PS boards (linked above), jasoncps has reported that he noticed something wrong right away with his new silver PSP 3000.
Pictured below (left) are what he states the picture should look like, as well as what it looks like on the PSP 3000 (right).
To quote: I traded in my perfect 2000 series with a silky smooth screen and great color for this? Yes the 2000's screen ghosted a little but it looked much better than this "new" screen with scanlines and with interlacing problems!!!
See the difference?? THE PROBLEM IS THE INTERLACING AND THE SCREEN ARE OFF SYNC. The effect really only comes into view with fast moving objects on screen. That's why some say they don't see it, because they DONT KNOW WHAT TO LOOK AT.
R&C Size Matters can show what I am talking about by simple moving Ratchet left and right on the screen. When you do that, look at the tool in his hand when he runs. See the lines going through it? Those are not supposed to be there. Play any game with fast moving objects and you will see the above illustrated effect.
THIS NEEDS TO BE BROUGHT TO SONY'S ATTENTION AS IT IS IN EVERY GAME AND EVERY VIDEO WITH FAST MOVING OBJECTS, ESPECIALLY DARK COLORED OBJECTS ON LIGHT COLORED BACKGROUNDS.
