25w ago - Sony Producer Nicolas Doucet posted up a video today introducing The PlayRoom on PS4, and only for PlayStation 4 below!
To quote: Hi everybody! We're excited to unlock the doors to The PlayRoom, a place for fun and innovative PlayStation 4 Camera and DualShock 4 controller experiments!
As we recently announced, the DualShock 4 controller is packed with lots of new features (such as Light Bar, Touch Pad, Motion Sensor, Speaker, improved Dual Motors...). So what happens when we combine these with the PlayStation 4 Camera? Well, let us show you with this new video!
Let's start with the AR Menu. The first thing you will notice is how the Light Bar is tracked by the PlayStation 4 Camera. This allows us to make cool augmentations like these holographic panels, which come out of the controller and appear around you on the screen.
Using the Touch Pad, you can scroll through them and click to make selections. It's easy to use and very responsive, thanks to the high resolution of the Touch Pad.
Another cool finding is one we nicknamed "the sci-fi genie". By rubbing the Touch Pad like a magic lamp, you can summon Asobi, an interactive flying robot who comes out to play in your living room....
41w ago - In a recent interview with CNBC (linked above), Sony CEO Jack Tretton has confirmed PS4 / PlayStation 4 video game pricing as ranging from $0.99 to $60 with demos available as well.
Below are the details, to quote: "On pricing, Tretton said that the PS4 is "designed with the game developer in mind and the consumer in mind," and will offer games with prices ranging from $0.99 to the more traditional $60 range with the ability for players to sample games before they buy.
"I think people are willing to pay if they see the value there," he said. "The heat for the true gamer is on the console."
He said that games on mobile devices are "additive experiences" and that gamers won't "migrate down the food chain" for their primary gaming experience."
In related PlayStation 4 news today, IGN reports that PS4 supports PS Move, but not the DualShock 3 controller.
To quote: Today during a roundtable discussion with the president of Sony’s Worldwide Studios, Shuhei Yoshida, news about the role of PlayStation 3’s two controllers – DualShock 3 and PlayStation Move – were revealed in terms of their functionality with PlayStation 4.
41w ago - Evolution Studios Game Director Matt Southern announced today that racing evolves on PlayStation 4 / PS4 with Driveclub!
To quote: When I joined Evo nine years ago, the first concept I worked on was for a racing game that was all about racing with friends. It combined the best cars (and they would have to be real ones), on the most breathtaking roads in the world, with gameplay that was totally focused on team-based racing.
I loved the job from day one.
The game was all about utter car passion. It was about connecting people who are as in love with car culture as we are, and creating a universe for these impassioned racers to all play together.
We created web design concepts that showed how you could connect with people and access your club when you were away from the living room, and we created prototypes of the most immersive, detailed vehicle interiors and exteriors possible.
Except...they weren't possible. Our concept was simple, but needed a socially connected network and audiovisual technology that wasn't available.
When we knew PlayStation 4 was coming, we realised that the time was right to make the Driveclub dream a reality. It was time to combine nearly 15 years...
41w ago - Ubisoft Community Developer Nik Schmidt has announced that Watch Dogs is coming to both PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 platforms.
To quote: Watch_Dogs is back. In reality it never really went away, but it has been a while since E3 2012. A lot of development has been done on our side. We know you have many questions. Believe this: we'll do our best in the upcoming months to answer all of them... well, most of them.
For now, though, the whole development team is very proud to show you this new gameplay demo where you'll get to see yet another facet of Watch_Dogs in action. In it, you can see that Watch_Dogs will be a game of opportunities and choices; of connections and consequences.
As we continue our march towards launch you'll get to know Aiden Pearce, our mysterious protagonist. Learn what drives him and what makes him tick. You'll get to experience and understand the concept of a hyper-connected, smart city. You'll realize what it is like to have complete control over a major city right at your fingertips and the chaos it can create.
Watch_Dogs will be available on PlayStation 4 at launch, as well as the PlayStation 3 computer entertainment system. Keep checking back with us by visiting the...
