142w ago - Today megahiperultrafantas and Psmaniaco posted details and a video on Spanish site Elotrolado (linked above) on how to remarry PS3 Blu-ray Disc (BD) drives to other consoles.
To quote, roughly translated: "We are the fantastic ultra hyper Mega Team. We have modified. Self and made impossible... The way to solve the problem the reader is:
First, downgrade to firmware 2.30 (you know how), then we launch the console normally (thus leaving the service before) and set the time, date, language and others.
Second: Go back to start the service mode.
In the stick, unzip the contents of the zip in the root of this.
Put the USB flash drive in the far right and turn on the PS3... will see something new on screen, when you see that makes drive init blue with a circle on the right is that it has been restored key in the reader.
We let you reinstall the 2.30 and also is configured to read all the films on bluray region free.
Exit the service mode (with the lv2diag FILE 2) and we have ready the reader by reading the games, except if we have the laser damaged.
Well, from here on out if you crack a controller bluray or ps3 you have two, one with...
143w ago - As a follow-up to our previous article, the Guardian (linked above) is now reporting that PS3 consoles have been taken from Dutch homes as a result of the Sony-LG patent dispute while MCVUK reports that the previously seized PS3's are being released following the court lifting LG's injunction against Sony with the firm ordered to pay legal fees.
To quote from the Guardian: "LG has won a court order enabling it to seize all new PS3 across the Netherlands – including those already in Dutch homes – in a dispute that centres on Sony's allegedly infringing use of Blu-ray technology belonging to LG.
The injunction means that LG is tightening the net on PS3s in Europe, having already ordered customs officers to seize thousands of the consoles last week.
Sony will fight to have the blockade lifted at an emergency hearing in the Hague's civil court of justice tomorrow.
LG argues that Sony PS3s infringe a number of its patents relating to playback of Blu-ray discs. The Korean...
156w ago - Here is a guide I wrote on how to convert your Demo / Kiosk PS3 into a fully functional Retail PlayStation 3 console via JailBreak using PSGrade (or similar) so that so you no longer need to enter PS3 Demo Unlock Codes in.
158w ago - Previously PS JailBreak users were warned not to update to PS3 Firmware 3.42 as it patches the PS3 JailBreak exploit, and today theruler and others on PSX-Scene (linked above) report that PS3 Firmware 3.42 consoles are now hitting retailers which have removed the exploit currently used for PlayStation 3 JailBreaking.
To quote: Several members of this forum and others have been reporting buying brand new PS3 Systems that come with 3.42FW. Systems above 3.41 cannot be jailbroken.
While not all systems in stores are 3.42FW and people have still reported buying 3.40FW systems, the increased reports of 3.42FW systems can only be a sign of things to come with Sony attempting to combat the jailbreak on all fronts, and signals an incoming scarcity of consoles with 3.41 or below.
If you or someone you know buys a system that comes with 3.42 please post as much information as possible in this thread. (Including box description, barcode, other codes, SKU, etc. Pics plz!)
Just got a ps3 160gb from the zellers moonlight madness and it came with 3.42
164w ago - A few months back it was first reported that a Sony ban wave was imminent, and today DJLO over at PSX-Scene reiterated the fact that it's only a matter of time until Sony begins banning PS3 JailBroken consoles.
To quote: Folks, Sniffynose pointed me to this. Since we are all updating now, you ALL need to read this and pay attention
On boot the system contacts the server and uploads the play list etc. this list alone is enought to get anyone that goes online banned as it shows the bootmanger etc. has been running. Here is the list and what they do, I port sniffed this a while ago before I went online with a retail unit >.> because I am not stupid hehe.
All these need to be blocked, web access will still work, updates will still work, but psn and any system messages/ads/communication will be blocked completely. For other areas someone would have to sniff the addresses again to compare. North American Servers are listed.
