83w ago - Following up on the initial PS3 JailBreak 2 news comes various PS3 CFW JailBreak 2 and JB2 Updater details today including the examination of an EBOOT.BIN from the Driver: San Francisco Blu-ray Disc in comparison to one from an official PS3 Game (BLES00891) Disc with developments on reverse-engineering the PS3 JB2 file dumps and more below.

To begin, whyudie states the following on the PS3 CFW JailBreak 2 and JB2 Updater for PlayStation 3: I just wanted to share this CFW. This CFW is intended more specifically for Jailbreak 2 dongle only. Most likely will not run well without that dongle. Perhaps some developers out there could investigate this CFW, and develop it even better.

If anyone out there want to install this CFW on your PS3. Do it at your own risk!!

JailBreak 2 Dongle Features

• Can play backup games that require firmware 3.60 + (Direct boot just like the original games)
  
• Only burned BD Disc format with some patches will work. For now, there's no info how to make a backup iso to work with this CFW.
  
• Can play backup games from the HDD. PS3 games with FW 3.55 or lower (via internal or external hdd)

83w ago - Today a PS3 JailBreak 2 v3.55 USB dongle from Indonesian Team KADO has been rumored to play v3.60+ game backups according to a Forum user who goes by the name donald8 followed by PS3 CFW JailBreak 2 and JB2 Updater for PlayStation 3.

Reportedly it allows users to play v3.6+ PlayStation 3 Firmware titles including FIFA 12 on burned Blu-ray discs, however, it only allows running older PS3 games from the hard drive.

To quote: I live in indonesia, and here in my country, there is a hot rumor about new dongle called JB2 and can play 3.60+ game burned to Blank BD.. It also still can play from HDD...

It require us still on 3.55 (not cfw), use the dongle (without power eject), and it will boot the ps3, then you can insert the copied / pirated bd disc. It already being sold and my friend also the sellers already confirmed it can play FIFA 12 and PES 12 and more game coming soon

95w ago - Today Egamer.co.za (linked above) reports that South African Police Service's Commercial Crime Unit, acting on behalf of complaints received from the South African Federation Against Copyright Theft (SAFACT), has raided and consequently arrested a PS3 JailBreaker residing in Parktown, Johannesburg, South Africa along with seizing the PlayStation 3 piracy devices used to circumvent Sony's system protection.

South Africa, 2ND August 2011, Johannesburg: The first PlayStation 3 jailbreak raid took place earlier today at a residential property in Parktown, Johannesburg. Jailbreak devices are used to circumvent the security features on PS3 consoles to facilitate the playing of pirated PS3 games.

The raid was conducted by the South African Police Service's Commercial Crime Unit, Johannesburg after receiving criminal complaints from the South African Federation Against Copyright Theft (SAFACT). The Police were assisted by the SARS Computer Forensics Lab.

Various state of the art computers, circumvention software packages, jailbreak USB devices, PS3 consoles and hard drives were seized. In addition fake PS2 games, original PS3 games, believed to be used as masters...

To quote, roughly translated: The update method is just the same as the previous:

1. Place the "update.bin" into the root directory, pull out and then insert, the U disk will be popup, at this time, place the cheatlist.dat into the root directory of the U disk.

2. If need to update the cheatlist.dat, must insert a TF card to the P3GO, and then the computer can identify U disk of the P3GO. If insert into a PS3, the TF must by pulled out, otherwise the PS3 can not recognize it. (The unknown device appeared on PS3 is normal)
