96w ago - Following up on my previous release, after moja drew to my attention the inconvenience of having to downgrade to 3.55 and re-install a new PUP to get new features in my HFW I tried to look for a solution.
Making a FW 4.00 compatible PUP was not an option. So I looked for another way. At the moment I'm quite happy with the base firmware of my HFW and the only real thing I would change to add new features would be in the XMB items.
Like new revisions of DeViL303's XMB Manager. So I did some experimenting with the XML files and found it is possible to use resources from external (other than the /dev_flash/) devices. So basically I've modified the XMB read XML instructions from a USB device.
This allows me to port revisions of the XMB Manager, and my 4.00HFW users can simply copy the files to a USB to use the newer version. No downgrade required to use XMB updates. I'm...
I'm not going to make you re-download another 180MB PUP file, Instead I've decided to release a patch which has all the tools required to patch my Version 2 pup to be Version 2.5 (although when the link for the version 2 pup gets taken down I'll release a version 2.5 pup). The patch files can be downloaded here:
Just like before only retail signed .PKG can be installed with this. Have fun. THIS HFW WILL NOT ALLOW HOMEBREW!
How to install the 3.2 Update Patch for my 4.00HFW:
1/ Install PS3MFW Builder v0.2.1
2/ Copy the 'change_xml_files.tcl' file to the 'task' folder of PS3MFW Builder
4/ Put my "modded FW 4.00(releasev2).PUP" as the "Original fw" and whatever you want as the "Modified fw"
3/ Uncheck every thing except "PS3HEN's 4.00HFW Patch 1"
4/ In "PS3HEN's 4.00HFW Patch 1" link each file on the task page to the...
99w ago - For those who own PS3 Debug / Test consoles or are simply into collecting PlayStation 3 file leaks, recently PS3 Debug / Test Firmware 3.74 surfaced alongside version 4.00 from Sony's North American Press Web site.
If you didn't know, the address to their Press site is http://PressCenter.PlayStation.com/ and Sony offers free access to all members of the press there using SCEA / SC3APR to login and obtain the latest press releases and related files.
Finally, keep in mind these PUP updates will currently NOT install on a retail PS3, and so they are intended for examination and comparison purposes only.
We have 100% confirmed that running this updater on a retail PS3 will not damage it, however, it will give the following error before the installation completes: The data type is not supported. (8002F029)

112w ago - Following up on their previous PlayStation 3 System Software update, today Sony has quietly released non-mandatory PS3 Firmware update 3.73 in both full and patch update versions which simply improves system stability.
114w ago - According to Engadget.com (linked above), the PS3 will support Sony's VPL-VW1000ES 4K Projector stills following a future PlayStation 3 Firmware update, however, moving pictures will still remain out of reach for the time being.
To quote: Once you've cleared the $25k or so in your budget that it will take to snag one of Sony's 4K VPL-VW1000ES your next problem will be finding some 4096x2160 res content to view on it.
While showing off the new beamer for its Japanese audience at CEATEC today, Sony announced the PS3 will get a firmware update around the beginning of 2012 that will allow it to natively output 4K stills.
There's a PlayView "visual magazine" already available on the PlayStation store in Japan that supports 4K and 3D, but this update will bring super high res viewing of your vacation pics, or any other high res image files you can snag, to the living room.
While your friends will no doubt be impressed by the museum-quality art gala you're now capable of hosting, we're starting the timer for 4K video sources - if we don't hear anything concrete at CES then we'll...
