120w ago - Following up on the PS3 Debug Firmware 4.20 and PS3 Test Firmware 1.01 & 1.02 updates, this weekend an anonymous user on the PlayStation 3 Developer Wiki has shared the Sony PS3 Debug / Test (DEX) Firmware 4.21 update for collectors.

As always, keep in mind these PUP updates will currently NOT install on a retail PS3, and so they are intended for examination and comparison purposes only.

We have 100% confirmed that running this updater on a retail PS3 will not damage it, however, it will give the following error before the installation completes: The data type is not supported. (8002F029)

120w ago - Following up on the PS3 DEX Firmware 4.20 updates, I've now gotten all the Sony PS3 Debug / Test Firmware versions not currently in the Downloads section and will upload them as time permits beginning with versions 1.01 and 1.02 below for collectors.

As always, keep in mind these PUP updates will currently NOT install on a retail PS3, and so they are intended for examination and comparison purposes only.

126w ago - Following up on the ongoing DEX thread and previous leak, today the Sony PS3 Debug / Test Firmware 4.11 update has surfaced for both PlayStation 3 collectors and developers on the PS3 Dev Wiki (linked above) from an anonymous source.

How to Play PS3 Backups (Less Than / Equal To) 4.11 on Debug (DEX) Consoles (roughly translated)

You will need:

  • Disc Image Generator for PlayStation 3: [Register or Login to view links]
  • The backup of your game;
  • A PS3 DEX configured as described below;
  • A Hard Disk USB vacuum (must be formatted later).

First turn on your console, connect the USB hard drive and navigate to Settings-> Debug Settings.

WARNING: with the next step you will lose ALL data on your hard disk so irreversible.

Select "HDD Format BD Emulator", choose "Quick"...
