Sony PS3 SDK GCC Cell OS LV2 Toolchain Sources Leaked

400°
162w ago - Today JohnAaron has leaked the Sony PS3 SDK GCC Cell OS LV2 Toolchain sources on IRC, which PlayStation 3 developers can use to aid in the ongoing creation of an open-source PS3 Software Development Kit.

To quote: Previously, coders could not make their own versions of GCC with the PS3 SDK. However, that setback no longer stands in the way with the release of these files.

In addition, dev's can now port later versions of GCC to the SDK, as well as make their own toolchain. Once again, it's stressed that if you're not a developer this won't be of any use to you, but this will come in handy for developers.

[01:35] [JohnAaron] anybody into GCC?
[01:36] [JohnAaron] cause I just found something interesting

PS3 Debug / Test Firmware 3.50 - 3.60 Updates Leaked

1350°
170w ago - Over the last few days several new PS3 Debug / Test Firmware updates have been leaked outside of Sony Dev and have surfaced publicly courtesy of Cairobeta and ConsoleDev, however, no new SDK files have yet since the previous PS3 3.41 SDK file leak.

Download: PS3 SDK / Tools Leak Thread / PS3 Debug / Test Firmware Updates

The leaked PlayStation 3 files include PS3 Debug Firmware v3.60 Update, PS3 Debug Firmware v3.56 Update, PS3 Debug Firmware v3.55 Update and PS3 Debug Firmware v3.50 Update.

It's important to note that these PS3 Debug / TEST updates will currently NOT install on a retail PS3, and so it is intended for examination and comparison purposes only unless you own a Dev unit.

For those curious, running this updater on a retail PS3 will not damage it, however, it will give the following error before the installation completes: The data type is not supported. (8002F029)

PS3 SDK 3.41 Differences Comparison to PS3 SDK 1.92 Leak

400°
195w ago - I wanted to give myself a summary of what's new in PS3 SDK 3.41 compared to PS3 SDK 1.92. diff proved to be less than helpful here, because of all the copyright and SDK version headers that changed.

Download: PS3 SDK Differences

So I put together a simple program to filter the diff results. It stripped almost 150K from the diff of the SPU headers, and nearly 300K from the diff of the PPU headers (approximately 25%). It should also be possible to use this exact same program to filter comparisons on any future incomplete SDK leaks.

I'm hopeful this can be helpful for other developers, so I'm sharing my diffs and the program to create and filter them. The zip contains the following files:

  • Makefile
  • build_diffs.sh
  • diff_filter.cpp
  • spu_differences.txt
  • ppu_differences.txt

To create your own SDK diffs, modify build_diffs.sh to point to whichever two SDKs you want to compare, then run make && sh...

PS3-FTP v1.0 Homebrew App Arrives, Made with PSL1GHT SDK

650°
199w ago - Following PS3 FTP Server and PS3 FTP Server v1.2, today stoneMcClane has introduced the third PS3 FTP homebrew application called simply PS3-FTP for PlayStation 3 JailBreak users, this one being made with the PSL1GHT open-source SDK.

To quote: The first legal PS3 ftp server has arrived, courtesy of stoneMcClane. The previous ftp servers for PS3 used the Sony SDK. However, PS3FTP is coded with the PSL1GHT Open SDK, making it completely legal.

Please note during our testing of PS3FTP, it crashed several times. It appears this new project still has some bugs to work out.

Finally, from the ReadMe file:

A minimal PlayStation3 FTP server written with the help of PSL1GHT (http://www.psl1ght.com/)

1) To start the FTP server, just run the PS3-FTP.self via ps3load/wiiload or install the PS3-FTP.pkg and run it directly from the...
