Cloud PS3 Game Online Saving Coming in Firmware 3.60 Update

750°
203w ago - Today Kotaku (linked above) reports that Sony PlayStation 3 developers have revealed Cloud PS3 Game Online Saving is coming in the Firmware 3.60 update.

To quote: "Cloud storage means that, rather than just keeping your save game data on your PlayStation 3's hard drive, users will be given the option to upload their saves remotely to a server.

The advantage of this is that not only does it save the user space on their hard drive, but since it's tied to a PlayStation Network account, it can be pulled down to different consoles whenever and wherever the user desires.

First rumored all the way back in 2009, there is of course a catch: it'll only be made available to PlayStation Plus subscribers, not the great unwashed. Actually, there are two catches: Sony bundled the announcement with the clause that, because saving games to the cloud "will allow save data with the copy prohibited attribute to be copied into the online storage", developers are able to opt out and bar their games from using it should there be a concern.

Sony will call the process "Online Saving", and it'll be made available as part of the PS3's upcoming 3.60 firmware update."

286w ago - Here we go again- another chapter in the Sony debunking a rumor turned truth saga.

A week ago PlayStation Cloud details surfaced, which Sony was quick to debunk only to have PSW Magazine July '09 Issue reveal more concrete PlayStation Cloud details.

Today, PlayStationLifestyle (linked above) has revealed that SCEA has indeed registered PlayStationCloud.com, as follows:

Registrant:
SCEA San Diego Studio
10075 Barnes Canyon Rd
San Diego, CA 92121
US
858-824-4760

SCEA San Diego recently mentioned while speaking to [Register or Login to view links] that they would be exclusively working on PSN game development. This goes against all speculation so far pegging PlayStation Cloud as a social networking service. Of course Sony San Diego could very well be developing a service or application, for the PSN with PlayStation Cloud.

Whatever PS Cloud is, it seems as though it's going to be coming from Sony's...

PSW Magazine July '09 Issue Reveals Legitimate PS Cloud Details

287w ago - Despite Sony stating that the recent PS Cloud rumor was pure conjecture, today Glyn_Dwr has shared a little substantial evidence that PS Cloud does exist.

Below is a scan from PSW Magazine's July '09 issue, to quote:

A small paragraph of information on PS 'Cloud' in July 09 issue of PSW page 73! Sorry about the lousy quality, the article reads:

You've always been able to create and share levels in PSN puzzler Echochrome, but an update will let you do this via 'Cloud'.

This system removes the need for Sony to check levels before being uploaded - an early problem for LittleBigPlanet. The new update will also allow for Playstation Eye support.

You will be able to film yourself solving the game's complex puzzles and then upload your performance to YouTube. Trash Panic also enables you to upload footage.

Does this mean we can expect to see user-created content via Playstation Cloud in future games?

Sony: PlayStation Cloud 'Mockup' is Pure Conjecture

287w ago - Today Sony has debunked the recent PlayStation Cloud rumor via IGN.

For those unaware, PlayStation Cloud was reported to be a PlayStation Network portal that collects your saves, stats, and trophies for the world to see where the [Register or Login to view links] known as GiantEnemyCrab included a screenshot (below) with the following details, to quote:

"I have recently talked to a very trusted source (he works at Sony) and he told me about PlayStation Cloud. If you don't believe me then I suggest you scroll down because I have something that can prove to you I'm not lying. It was given to me by my source.

I'm not going to say from who because I promised not to say but here are some of the things I know about PlayStation Cloud.

PlayStation Cloud is like your PlayStation Network portal. It will have all your data and info like.

• Save game data
• PlayStation Home data
• PlayStation Network Game Statistics
• Registered hardware and software
• In-game Screenshots
• Video captured using the Youtube uploading feature

You can access your save...

Rumor: Details on Sony's PlayStation Cloud Surface

50°
287w ago - According to shakedown1987 via GameTrailers (linked above), Sony has began training on their recently patented "PlayStation Cloud".

Apparently, PlayStation Cloud is similar to the social-media site Facebook. This application will update, in real-time, and show all your friends your latest trophy accomplishments, avatar changes, etc.

Furthermore, it seems Sony is looking to make some features of the service public, and is actively looking for current customer service employees to moderate the public arenas.

To quote: Someone from SCEA consumer services told me something interesting. I recently called Sony's consumer services to complain to them about the lack of features, hoping they would forward it to the right people.

The guy I talked to was like he had no idea if they are getting those features however he said that he has an orientation sometime next week for a new service with new features called PlayStation Cloud, he said that all he knows about it is what his manager had told him and that there will be something similar to FaceBook where you'll have a News Feed thing that will say all the things you've done or friends have done on PlayStation Network like...
