9w ago - Sony's Tom Wallis revealed details today on how real-life conflict inspired Far Cry 4 for both PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3 platforms.

Set in the fictional Himalayan country of Kyrat, this nation torn apart by war draws heavily from real-world locations to make the game feel authentic.

We caught up with Mark Thompson, narrative director, and Alex Hutchinson, creative director, to find out how visiting Nepal to meet people who actually fought in the civil war helped to inspire the development of Far Cry 4.

"One of the first things we did was to write down a list of different animals to include in the game," Mark told us when we met up with the team at Ubisoft recently in Montreal.

"We also made a list of environment features we wanted. From that we looked at locations where the two would make sense, and we came to the Himalayas. We needed to find somewhere that had a history of conflict - somewhere that could be politically unstable - the kind of place that you would go to that was on the edge of the map. Places that are referred to as 'failed states.'"

To quote: Developer [Register or Login to view links] are sneaky. Currently hard at work on their upcoming adventure game, RiME, that didn't stop them cramming hundreds of tiny details into the latest trailer.

We cornered creative director, Raul Rubio Munarriz, and cracked out the thumb screws to bring you every hidden detail you almost certainly will have missed.

1. Stranded (0.21)

"In the beginning you are stranded on this island and have no purpose. You are on the island, you have left your home and you don't know why."

2. Helpful critters (0.23)

"But suddenly you'll see something that shouldn't be there. The animals around you are going to help to varying degrees, here you can see the seagulls flying in one direction - they'll try to act as a guide and circle points of interest to help you out."

3. The little prince (0.25)

"The boy wears a cape, and that's really significant - but I can't tell you everything, you'll have to play the game!"

Video: Alienation on PS4: Pure Gameplay on PlayStation 4

9w ago - Sony Blog Manager Fred Dutton shared a pure gameplay PS4 video today spotlighting Alienation on PlayStation 4 below.

To quote: On a personal level at least, one of the most pleasing reveals in our Gamescom press briefing last week was a first glimpse at Alienation, the new game from [Register or Login to view links] creator Housemarque.

As a huge fan of classic arcade gameplay, it's great to see the studio back on the scene so quickly after the phenomenal [Register or Login to view links].

The launch trailer was predictably splendid, but it also raised plenty of questions. Questions that I wanted answered! So I tracked down Housemarque's Mikael Haveri after the show in search of a few answers. Read on to find out a little more about what the brilliant Finnish team has in store.

PlayStation.Blog: How far back does the idea for Alienation go? Is it something you've wanted to make for some time?

Mikael Haveri: We've always been a tech-centric company. We start projects by just playing around with tech. We have our own engine...

Sony on Facing the Challenge in Lords of the Fallen on PlayStation 4

9w ago - Sony Online Content Producer Rhys Sutheran outlined some of the challenges PS4 fans will face in Lords of the Fallen on PlayStation 4 today.

To quote: "Do you like challenging games?"

So begins my first step into the demonic realm of the Fallen God - chief antagonist in Thomasz Gop and CI Games' forthcoming fantasy RPG, Lords of the Fallen on PS4.

In answer to that - still bearing the scars of endless Dark Souls re-starts - yes, I do like a challenge. Thomasz's jovial reply isn't exactly encouraging. "That's good! But you're still gonna die... a lot."

He's certainly not wrong. As executive producer in the small creative team at Poland's CI Games, Thomasz's friendly demeanor hides the dark heart of the man responsible for the most brutal, punishing, yet immensely satisfying fantasy RPG to make its way to PlayStation 4 so far.

I sat down with Thomasz at Gamescom 2014 to get hands-on with Lords of the Fallen's "second dimension," an alternate realm that the game's protagonist - and prolific sinner - Harkin will journey back and forth from throughout his blood-soaked quest.

"It's an important point in the game," Thomasz says as I face the first of the sword-wielding brutes blocking my path. "Learning more about both realms guides the player towards...

Video: Bloodborne on PlayStation 4: New PS4 Combat Details

10w ago - Sony Computer Entertainment Japan Studio Producer Masaaki Yamagiwa shared a video spotlighting new PS4 combat details on Bloodborne for PlayStation 4 below today.

To quote: Hello, PlayStation fans. This is Masaaki Yamagiwa from Japan Studio. I am pleased to present our brand new gameplay trailer and some new gameplay details about the PlayStation 4 exclusive Bloodborne.

This week is the first public hands-on with Bloodborne at the Gamescom show in Germany, so we have lots to talk about. The three new themes From Software is pursuing with Bloodborne are: fear and exploring the unknown, intense life-and-death battles, and new and unique online experiences.

A big part of the fun is exploring a mysterious new world. The creepy and sometimes horrific gothic world of Bloodborne will be brought to life on the PS4 in amazing detail through the beautiful yet somber architecture; attention to detail in the environment; gorgeous lighting from the light of the moon, lanterns and fires burning in the street; and a trusty torch to light your way through dark and dangerous spaces.

Exploring the unknown can be a harrowing experience, especially in a game like Bloodborne where death and madness can be lurking around every corner.

At E3 we introduced players the city of Yharnam,...
