Sony London: The Getaway 3 & Eight Days for PS3 Not Cancelled

250°
254w ago - Last year Sony Computer Entertainment announced that it cancelled production on two PlayStation 3 titles in development at the Sony London Studio, namely The Getaway 3 and Eight Days.

Just over a month ago some related video and media from the titles surfaced, and today GameSpot is reporting that The Getaway 3 and Eight Days are not abandoned after all!

To quote from an interview with Sony Studio London's Nicolas Doucet:

"I would not say they have been abandoned, just put to one side. Much work had been done. The studio just wanted to focus on its strengths, EyeToy and SingStar. Given the potential of EyePet, priorities have been changed, but the other projects aren't dead yet. Ultimately, the decision [to put those games to one side] has benefited everyone."

He then goes on to describe that Studio London have one other game in development but gives no details. He describes it as a "different concept".

355w ago - Flagship has released the patch notes for tonight's patch, which also includes a host of updates and fixes (including enabling Elite mode for non-subscribers!) coming in alongside the Guy Fawkes content.

Its nice to see that they are addressing bug fixes to a great extent, and not just adding Guy Fawkes content, which could possibly have been the scenario. Full notes available here. Some highlights:

UI
  • Many new UI sounds for better feedback.
  • Elite Mode button now lights up only when a player has completed the main storyline.
  • Added a queuing system to the request dialog to better handle concurrent party, duel, trade, and guild requests from other players.
  • New Account Information in the Options menu.
  • Character's level now properly displays after they join a guild
  • Party members are now always displayed in the Party UI regardless of how far apart they are, as long as the characters are in the same area / level.
  • New error message/sound when a character attempts to purchase an item without enough gold or room in their inventory.

    Graphics
  • Overall memory usage improved, especially in Stations. This increases client stability, reducing "memory exhausted" crash issues.

    Games event highlights positives

    50°
356w ago - The UK games industry is celebrating all that is positive in gaming in a week-long event taking place in London. The London Games Festival comes after the industry has been scrutinised by both the government and the media.

"It is all about beating the drum for the games industry," said Paul Jackson, director general, at Elspa.

A government-backed review of games and children is under way and the British Board of Film Classification recently banned Manhunt 2 for a second time.
