PlayStation Mobile: EcoFish Makes a Splash Tomorrow

50°
85w ago - Eclipse Games Founder Eduardo Jimenez has announced today that EcoFish is making a PlayStation Mobile splash tomorrow.

Below are the details, to quote: EcoFish is a game I personally wanted to do for a long time. It's based on games from my childhood - games that I loved but for some reason haven't been re-done and re-invented a million times already.

If you liked old-school platformers you'll find lots of new games still being made in that genre, but if you look for games like QiX, Styx or Gal's Panic, you're not likely to find many.

It wasn't hard to convince the rest of the team since they played those classics too and loved the 'genre' as much as I did!

The core mechanic of the game consists of drawing lines starting from the borders of the playable area enclosing parts of it that are 'acquired'. If you enclose an enemy within the area you acquire, it is destroyed. We thought this kind of gameplay would fit particularly well on touchscreens and, of course, the PS Vita.

There are different objectives in every level, such as destroying a concrete enemy, eliminating all enemies, acquiring a certain percentage of the screen, and so on. We have deviated there from the original formula, as well as with the enemies.

We designed a...

Video: F1 Race Stars Gives The F1 Experience a Karting Makeover

88w ago - Codemasters Game Designer Simon Berry has posted up a video today showcasing a kart makeover in F1 Race Stars below.

To quote: [Register or Login to view links] are well known for creating racing games with lots of depth, and in many ways our brief for F1 Race Stars (out on PS3 November 20th today) was no different.

When designing the game's structure we intended to provide ongoing variety as crucially as the instant appeal you'd expect from a "karting" game.

Firstly, along with the typical race event, we have introduced a host of other modes of racing. There are eight in total, each requiring unique skills and strategy – some will feel instantly familiar to gamers, and some will feel entirely fresh and unique.

For example, we've introduced Refuel mode - based on the principles of fuel strategy in F1, where fuel re-stocks are placed around the track, but carrying less fuel means more speed. Or Trophy Chase mode, a smash and grab event where players collect trophies, found both on the track and stolen from other drivers.

Gamers should feel instantly at home with other modes such as Sector Snatch mode, where players can own sectors of each track by setting the fastest split time though it, or racing in a classic Elimination mode.

Dead Space 3 Interview: Sci-fi Survival Horror Multiplayer Make-over

200°
89w ago - Sony Blog Manager Fred Dutton has shared a Dead Space 3 interview with fans today announcing that the Sci-fi Survival Horror Multiplayer game is getting a make-over.

Below are the details, to quote: Next February sees the release of the third main entry in EA's critically lauded sci-fi survival horror series, [Register or Login to view links].

While the first two games followed very similar templates, the latest installment really mixes things up by introducing full co-op play to the main campaign.

The optional drop-in, drop-out multiplayer lets a second player join in the story as new character Sergeant John Carver. While the game is fully playable as a solo experience, if you play with friend you'll have an expanded story and get to experience a number of extra sequences and set-pieces.

We sat down with the game's producer Steve Papoutsis to find out how - and why - developer [Register or Login to view links] has implemented this new system and what fans of the series can expect from reluctant hero Isaac Clarke's latest adventure.

Video: Make a Mess of Your PlayStation 3 with Germinator

50°
92w ago - Vice President of Development for Creat Studios Scott Hyman has posted up a fresh video today of Germinator for the PlayStation 3 console with details below on the PlayStation Move title.

To quote: Hey gang - I'm back to announce a great new game that features a killer twist on the bubble genre. Something messy and contagious is festering in suburbia, and there's only one hero who can save the day: The Germinator!

No more of that old school Match-3. While three of a kind won't help you in Germinator, you will need to crash your germ bubbles into those of the same color.

Upon collision, they'll combine and grow, GROW, GROW until they POP - gooey, splotchy, splattering pops. Be sure to pop them quickly before they get too big and overrun the house. Timing and accuracy is the key to preventing the various germs from rising too high.

Germinator features a crazy cast of multi-colored bubble germs with their own personalities and traits. Making them pop the right way triggers combos to explode them all and make a mess of your screen. Dozens of levels and power-ups will keep you coming back to clean house. Local multiplayer lets you battle your friends or the AI.

Video: Wizarbox: Realms Of Ancient War Makes PSN Its Battlefield

96w ago - Wizarbox Project Manager Julien Millet has posted up a video today announcing that Realms Of Ancient War is making PSN its Battlefield.

To quote: Hey there, it's Julien from [Register or Login to view links] here with word on our new game, Realms of Ancient War.

RAW has been in development for over two years, inspired by our deep love of hack 'n slash games. We've played practically every game in the genre (including some pretty obscure PS2 efforts) to seek out the best ideas from the past.

The rest of our inspiration comes from our designers, who came up with crazy ideas to give our title its own signature fast-and-furious style of action. Every decision was met with one simple question: "Is this a fun idea?"

• Do you want to spawn dozens of huge swords from the ground? Yes!

• Should the screen be covered with hordes of enemies, all hell-bent on the goal of killing you? Oh yes!

• What about taking mind-control of gigantic enemies, turning around and pounding the &@*% out of their minion buddies? Hell, YES!

• Maybe you could ride a flashy pink pony and battle your enemies with a giant toilet brush? Uh... let's forget that idea...
