Konami to Ditch Online IDs Starting with PES 2010

250°
286w ago - Beginning with the release of Pro Evolution Soccer 2010, Konami stated they are no longer using Online ID Codes when speaking to French site [Register or Login to view links].

However, as expected it is unfortunately too late to change the requirements for past titles such as Metal Gear Online despite the widespread registration issues.

It is comforting to know that soon you will just be able to get a new game and go online without having to add two proprietary IDs, as Microsoft and Sony will be running the servers versus Konami.

To quote: Konami's online games - like Metal Gear Online - have really suffered from the company's insistence on using two proprietary online IDs, despite the fact your console already has one. Looks like that practice may be coming to an end.

Yes, up til now if you wanted to play a Konami game on your console, not only have you needed a 360 or PS3 online account, you've also needed a Konami ID AND an account with the relevant game. So three accounts.

But the publishers of Metal Gear and Pro Evo have today confirmed with Gamekyo that this year's version of Pro...

Rumor: Konami Working on an Exclusive XBox 360 Title

100°
295w ago - Norihiko Hibino's company Web site hints at a new Konami title in development exclusively for the Xbox 360.

Listed in [Register or Login to view links] 2009 projects, the untitled Konami game is said to have earnt Hibino-san's talent for its music and sound effects.

Nonetheless, unlike other titles on the website, the game only lists Japan as its release country, so it might not be that interesting to us Westerners.

"Konami 'New Title' (Xbox 360, Japan) - Music, Sound Effects," the Web site reads.

Moreover, the company is listed as producing music for SEGA's Bayonetta, but only posts the PlayStation 3 as the game's platform; we know the climax action game will release simultaneously on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

Therefore, this game from Konami could very well be in development for other platforms, though it might just be an Xbox 360 re-release/remake of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots... Nah.

304w ago - PES 2009 for the Nintendo Wii boasts three control methods, with the intuitive 'point and drag' interface of last year's game enhanced to make defending and shooting more instinctive.

Players use the Nunchuck or the Wii Remote to control the player on the ball, while they pick the player to pass to, or send them on runs into space.

The system has been further refined, so that close control is improved, but two new control ideas have also been implemented.

Brash Entertainment's 'Saw' Video Game Picked Up By Konami

100°
307w ago - "Saw," one of the highest profile games left orphaned when Brash Entertainment went [Register or Login to view links], has been picked up by Konami.

Sources close to the project have confirmed that Konami has made a deal with Lionsgate, to whom the rights reverted when Brash breached its contract, and developer Zombie Studios.

The game will come out this fall along with the sixth "Saw" film (I almost wrote "Saw VI," but that series is getting so long in the tooth I'm wondering if they'll take a cue from the seventh "Star Trek" movie and just drop the numbers).

Konami is an obvious choice to pick up "Saw," since it has experience selling horror with a little franchise called "Silent Hill." But the game almost took a very intriguing twist: no publisher at all.

Or rather, no traditional publisher. Several sources told me that after it got the game rights back from Brash, Lionsgate strongly considered holding onto it and jumping into the videogame business by making "Saw" its first self-published game.

Like every other movie studio (some of whom have gotten into videogames, the rest of whom are considering it), Lionsgate was tempted by potential profits in the fast growing videogame biz. But in the end, execs...
